13-Year-Old, Jake Griffin Takes Seventh Win of 2012 Season
QUINCY, IL (Aug 21, 2012) – 13-year-old, Jake Griffin continued his late-season momentum over the weekend by claiming another Open Wheel Modified feature win at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
Another trip to Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and another feature win for Jake as he topped Friday night’s Open Wheel Modified feature. The victory marked his fifth triumph of the year on asphalt and his seven victory overall. In the Late Model division his luck would not be as good as fuel issues forced him to start and park in the feature. He was credited with an eleventh place finish. Full results and the latest point standings from both divisions are available at www.HawkeyeDownsSpeedway.com.
Saturday night at Montgomery Motorsports Park (New Florence, Missouri) had promise for Jake in both the UMP Super Late Model and UMP Open Wheel Modified division, but the end results in each class would be disappointing for Jake. In the Super Late Model feature Griffin was on his way to the lead, when contact from another competitor sent him into the wall to bring out the caution. After tagging the tail of the field he rebounded from the eighteenth position to a fifth place finish at the checkered flag.
In the UMP Open Wheel Modified division Jake started ninth in the feature and was up to the fourth position in the feature, when an accident sent him into the wall, ending his night early.
On Sunday night at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) another doubleheader of action was on tap for Jake Griffin Racing as he took part in both the UMP Super Late Model and UMP Open Wheel Modified classes. With eighteen entries on hand he finished third in the third heat race to earn the seventh starting spot for the feature event. In the finale he passed four cars on his way to a third place finish behind race winner, Steven Delonjay, and Dave Wietholder.
The UMP Super Late Model division would not be as kind to him as he started seventeenth on the feature grid before registering a fourteenth place finish. Full results for both divisions are available at www.QuincyRaceways.com.
This weekend, August 24th-26th, will be another tripleheader weekend for the team. On Friday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Jake will take part in the Open Wheel Modified and Late Model divisions in the final point’s event of 2012 at the facility. On Saturday night, the team will return to Montgomery County Speedway (New Florence, Missouri) for a Weekly Racing Series Event before concluding the weekend at Quincy Raceways (Quincy, Illinois) on Sunday night.
