Rain cancels Season Championships at Davenport Speedway

| August 24, 2018

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 24, 2018) – Sadly, rain has forced the Davenport Speedway to cancel tonight’s Season Championship racing program. The event will not be rescheduled.

Promoter Bob Wagener reflected upon the situation. “It certainly is disappointing. Losing back to back races at the end of the regular season, due to rain is tough, but it has happened before. All we can do now is congratulate the new track champions and pray for better weather for the September specials.”

Davenport Speedway track champions for 2018 are: Brandon Setser of Davenport, in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod class. This is Brandon’s first track title at Davenport Speedway.

In the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model class, Matt Ryan of Davenport, has defended his track championship. This is Ryan’s third title in the last four years at Davenport. Matt also leads the IMCA Late Model national point standings.

The Koehler Electric Street Stock crown goes to Jesse Owen of Colona. Owen won the crown despite not winning a feature all season.

The Eriksen’s Chevrolet IMCA Modified battle belongs to defending track champion Bryce Garnhart of Shannon, Illinois. In addition to his two Modified championships, Bryce also has two Sportmod titles at Davenport.

September specials at the Davenport Speedway include the Night of Destruction on Friday, September 7th. The event features cheater races in modified, sport mod, street stock, and 4-stock classes. The races are followed by the always popular Trailer Race.

A change has been made to the Iowa Governor’s Cup, on Friday, September 21st. The event originally slated for the half-mile, will be run on the quarter-mile track. The featured class is the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models. Also racing will be Modifieds, SportMods, and Street Stocks.
