Round 2 Reload: Highway 3 Raceway back in action this Saturday
ALLISON, Iowa (May 15) – On the heels of a barnburner season-opening event, racing action continues this Saturday, May 19, at the Highway 3 Raceway with Round 2 of he 2012 campaign featuring USRA A-Mods, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks.
After the season opener was rained out the two previous weekends, Mother Nature cooperated this past Saturday to give drivers and fans a great show at the historic dirt oval in Allison, Iowa.
The checkered flag waved for Tim Murty (A-Mods), Wayne Crimmins (Stock Cars), Tyler Droste (B-Mods) and Chris Hovden (Hobby Stocks) last week.
This Saturday, competitors will again be battling for some of the most lucrative purses in the region. A-Mods race for $500 to win while Stock Cars and B-Mods will shoot it out for $400 to win their respective main events. The Hobby Stock feature winner gets $300.
Thanks to support from local sponsors, bonus cash has also been posted this week for the A-Mods. In addition to the regular purse, the top three finishers in the A-Mod main event on American Racer tires will get an extra $200, $150 and $100, respectively, at the pay window.
Pits open at 4:00, grandstand gates open at 5:00 and hot laps begin at 6:00 with racing to follow. Adult grandstand tickets are $10, kids ages 6-12 are $3 and children 5 & under in for free. Pit passes are $25.
A-Mods utilize the USRA’s “alternative” rules package for Modifieds which requires a flat tappet/steel-headed engine or GM Performance Parts CT525 crate engine. Aluminum heads and roller cams are not allowed. Drivers may run a five-inch spoiler, but that is not mandatory.
The American Racer KK-704 is the Official Tire of the USRA Weekly Racing Series, but drivers in the A-Mod, Stock Car and B-Mod divisions may run the stamped Hoosier G60 racing tire. All other USRA rules apply to all four USRA-sanctioned classes.
For complete rules, check out the USRA website at www.usraracing.com.
Licensed drivers will earn track and national points in the USRA Weekly Racing Series. A-Mods are competing for a track points fund worth up to $1,500 to the season champion. Stock Cars are battling for $600 to win the points battle while B-Mods and Hobby Stocks square off for a $500 paycheck to the 2012 track champion.
Drivers not participating in points funds may purchase a Temporary License good for one (1) event only for $10. There is no requirement for any driver to purchase a Competitor License, and no cost-inflating parts such as stickered wheels or stamped cylinder heads are mandated by the USRA rulebook.
The Highway 3 Raceway is located 0.3 miles north of SR 3 on S. Main St. (at the Butler County Fairgrounds).
