Setser takes Davenport Street Stock Clash Cash

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 11, 2017) – Brandon Setser of Davenport, was the big winner at the Street Stock Clash, Friday at the Davenport Speedway. For his efforts, Brandon took home the $2,000 check and a guaranteed starting spot at the Iowa Governor’s Cup on September 22nd.
The 50-lapper got off to a rough start with numerous cautions during the first ten laps. Joe Bonney lept out to the early lead and held it until lap fifteen. That’s when Setser powered by for the lead.
Setser led the remainder of the race for the win. Greg Gill had a strong run to finish a solid second, with Bonney holding on for third. Dwayne Smith Jr. started last and finished fourth. Jared Waterman rounded out the top five.
Setser, Jeff Struck Jr., Jesse Owen, and Keith Blum won the Street Stock heats.
Matt Ryan won an unusual Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Jonathan Brauns jumped out to the early lead, but that would be erased by a yellow flag. After the restart, Ryan and Brauns would battle for the lead. That allowed Rob Toland to streak by on the inside. While leading, Toland would pull off the racetrack with ten laps remaining. Ryan inherited the lead and would pull away from the field for the remainder of the race.
The victory was Matt’s fourth of the season. Ryan and Brauns won the late model heats.
Rob Toland had to pass Jordan Hicks twice to win the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified main. The first pass was negated by a caution flag. Once in the lead Toland would start to pull away. Hicks stayed close enough to the leader to take second. Greg Durbin finished third, followed by Bryce Garnhart and Bruce Hanford. The win was Toland’s third modified feature at Davenport this year.
Thirty-two mods were on hand. Heat wins went to Hicks, Bob Dominacki, Doug Crampton, and George Spence III. Eric Barnes and Rob McDonald won the semis.
Tony Olson returned to winning form in Hawkeye Auto SportMod action. Olson grabbed the feature lead at the midway point of the race and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Gage Neal held the lead before Olson, and would finish second. Kelly Meyer took third, ahead of Jake Morris and Brandon Jewell. Olson now has six feature wins at Davenport this season.
Next Friday, August 18th, is Kid’s Back to School Night. Children 12 and under receive free grandstand admission with a paid adult. All classes will use a draw/re-draw format.
