Sheet Metal Showdown added to Night of Destruction at Davenport Speedway
DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 19, 2018) – As former track announcer Shane Davis used to say, “It’s time to let the sheet metal grind!” Thanks to sponsor “Johnny B”, the Sheet Metal Showdown has been added to the Night of Destruction line-up at the Davenport Speedway on Saturday, September 29th.
The Sheet Metal Showdown will be a $2,000-to-win, $100-to-start, 25-lap feature event. IMCA, UMP, and non-sanctioned Street Stocks will all compete as one class. There is no entry fee for the Street Stocks. Four rules will be enforced for the Sheet Metal Showdown.
- . All required safety equipment under their home track rules must be used.
- The racecar must have competed in a Street Stock or Stock Car class in 2018.
- The racecar must have a full frame.
- No wings.
Street Stocks from several states are expected to participate in the event, including a group from Indiana. The Hoosier contingent will be looking for payback on 2017 Davenport Speedway track champion Jeff Struck Jr. of Davenport.
Struck went to Plymouth Speedway in Indiana in July and won the $10,000 Charlie Poague Memorial Race. Struck’s successful forays in the east has earned him the nickname “The Hawkeye Hustler”.
The Night of Destruction now consists of the Sheet Metal Showdown, Cheater Races for the modified, sportmod, and 4-stock classes, and the crowd pleasing, Trailer Race.
Pit gates will open at 3:30pm, with the grandstand opening at 4:30. Hot laps are at 5:30pm with racing to follow.
Pit passes are $30. Grandstand admission for adults is $15, seniors and students $13, while children 12 and under are free.
Before the Night of Destruction, the racetrack will host the Iowa Governor’s Cup on Friday, September 21st. The Governor’s Cup is highlighted by the Deery Brothers Summer Series season finale.
The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa.
