HARLAN, IOWA (May 11, 2024) – After 2 weeks of rain outs, SCS finally got in the season’s points night kicked off. It was a beautiful night Sponsored by Pizza Ranch of Harlan who also had a Kids Candy Toss at intermission. Another great car count of 97 in 6 classes. A very well-balanced field of cars provided great racing action for the large crowd on hand.
In the KNOD IMCA Hobby Stock Class, Colby Christensen of Audubon led a good part of the race. Skylar Pruitt came through the field and passed Christensen and went on for the win. Followed by Christensen , Jeff Fink, and Jason Goans.
Next up were the Atlantic Bottling Coco-Cola IMCA Sport Compacts. Wow, is all I can say. In a class that has very few cautions we had 2 rollovers. Ethan McConell was involved in a nasty rollover and fortunately walked away. Shannon Mahlberg was also involved in another in turn three and walked away. After the mishaps Caine Mahlberg went on to win over Anthony Clark, John Logan and Trever Seglin.
In the Murphy Tractor and Equipment IMCA Stock Cars, Miciah Hidlebaugh took the early lead and looked like the man to beat after getting by Dustin Reeh. Defending track Champion, Mike Nichols had other ideas and was able to work his way to the point and win going away. Hidlebaugh took second place (Wahoo) Mike Albertsen third and Thomas Nelson fourth.
Keast Motor Group IMCA Sport Mods were up next, and charging his way from the tenth starting spot to the front was Jake Sachau. Sachau was challenged by Cody Olsen, who finished second to Jake. Joe Reetz was third and Chase Monson rounded out the top four.
Western Iowa Vintage raced next, and Irwin’s Pete Rasmussen drove his way to the front picking up the win. Second Place was Tim Plowman of Woodbine, third to Larry Knop and fourth to Todd Jansonius out of Carroll.
The final event of the evening featured the Sorensen Equipment IMCA Late Models. This class never disappoints. Drew Baker took the early lead in a stacked field, but Jesse Sobbing worked his way into the lead and went on for the win over Mike Collins Baker and Zach Zeitner in another good feature for these ground pounders.
