WAKEENEY, KS (July 13) — The United Rebel Sprint Series made their only appearance of the season at Wakeeney (KS) Speedway Friday evening, July 13. They were joined by the IMCA Modified and Hobby Stock divisions.
Lance Davis led the first 4 laps of the 25-lap sprint car feature before the first caution waved on lap 4 when Luke Cranston came to a stop. After the restart, Brian Hardman assumed command on the following lap, only to have the caution wave again on lap 6 when Blake Bogenhagen’s motor let go. When the field returned to green, Ty Williams shot around Hardman in turn one and drove off from the field. But on lap 18, Williams drove off turn 1 but kept going and was able to hang on to the lead, but it did allow the rest of the field to close the gap. The final caution waved on lap 20 when Keefe Hemel spun. After the restart,Cranston, of Plains, passed Williams on the high side in turn 2 to take the lead and hang on for the win. Williams finished second, followed by Judd Sheaffer, Jake Bubak and Kaden Taylor. Heat race winners includedCranston, Hemel and Sheaffer, while Jared Kern won the cash dash.
The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature was caution filled. Tim Watts led the opening lap and thenGreat Bend’s Nate Moore took the lead. The final caution waved on lap 19, setting up a green-white-checkered finish withMooreleading, followed by Troy Plummer and Dylan Sherfick. Mooreheld on to win to become the tenth different winner in that division this season in the 10 races held. Plummer and Dylan Sherfick followedMooreacross the line, with Travis Sherfick and John Fose rounding out the top five. Brian Calhoon, Plummer and Moore were the heat race winners.
The IMCA Hobby Stock feature had 3 different leaders. Jason McIntyre used his pole starting position to lead the first 3 laps before the first caution flag waved on lap 4. After the green flag replaced the yellow, Brian Stich passed McIntyre for the lead. Then on lap 13, Stich got wide down the backstretch and ‘The Wild Child’ Garrett Hager of Hays took over the top spot and held on the final 2 laps for his second win of the season. Point leader ‘Bam Bam’ Cody Graham finished second, followed by Stich, McIntyre and Jacob Crowell. Hager and Graham were both heat race victors.
