Sprint Invaders kick off back-to-back nights of racing this weekend in Independence
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Memorial Day weekend will provide race fans plenty of action at Independence Motor Speedway. The Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders Series will get the ball rolling Friday, May 24 with weekly racing continuing Saturday.
The Sprint Invaders will headline the Friday night Open Wheel Shootout, which will also include $500-to-win Modifieds and $300-to-win SportMods. Both of those divisions will run unsanctioned, however weekly track rules will apply. There will be no entry fee for the Modifieds and SportMods. Those divisions will qualify on a draw/redraw format.
Paul Nienhiser of Chapin, Ill., topped a field of 30 cars in the 360 Sprint series opener at 34 Raceway in West Burlington in late March. Russ Hall of Pleasant Hill was the winner among 29 entries for the tour’s second stop at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson on April 6.
The first Sprint Car event at the speedway in nearly 20 years is the tour’s first-ever visit to Independence and will be its third stop on the 2013 schedule.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. on May 24, with a drivers meeting at 6:30, hot laps at 6:45 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $30.
The fourth night of weekly racing will be held the following night, Saturday, May 25. IMCA sanctioned Late Models, Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts will comprise that event.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday, with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if attending with a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.
