TIM GOETTSCH, KEVIN KORSMO ADVANCE IN INEX LEGENDS QUALIFIER ADAM PETRZELKA BAGS FIRST HOBBY STOCK WIN
Cedar Rapids, IA (May 30, 2014) – Week five of the HyVee Racing Series saw a pair of Dublin City Pub INEX Legend drivers earn regional qualifier wins and a new face in victory lane after the Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stock feature.
Hawkeye Downs Speedway was host to the INEX Legends qualifier presented by Bulltown Legends of Iowa, a Kalona based authorized dealer for Legend cars.
Tim Goettsch drew the pole for the 25-lap Dublin City Pub Legends feature and he quickly blasted into the lead at the green flag, survived a couple restarts and motored to the relatively easy win, earning the first qualifier spot. Kevin Korsmo chased Goettsch for the entire race and settled for second which earned him the second qualifier slot. Both are now eligible for a INEX National Event.
Austin Kunert started in ninth and worked his way up to third with Dennis Diercks finishing fourth and Brody Willet was fifth.
Brad Schmidt saw an early lead wiped out by the lap two caution flag in the Sunline Hornets feature. Kurt Bohnsack moved to second on lap three and by lap six had pulled alongside Schmidt. Teo laps later Bohnsack made what would be the winning pass to secure his fifth win in five starts this season. Schmidt continued to run a strong race finishing third. Zach Hartman crossed the stripe in third but was later DQ’d for a technical infraction, giving third to Rob Aimers. Troy Scott finished fourth and Kayden Reynolds was fifth.
In Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, Adam Petrzelka took advantage of a pole position start and then held off Nathan Ballard to claim his first win at Hawkeye Downs. There were great position battles throughout the very entertaining race which saw Matt Lacoursiere and Kandi Floyd challenging for the lead early as well. Ballard tried to mount a last challenge with a couple laps remaining but settled for second while holding off Matt Petrzelka, who finished third. Lacoursiere was fourth and Floyd finished fifth. Adam Petrzelka is the fourth different winner in five races.
Jim Hanson made it four-for-four in Mountain Dew Sportsmen after taking the lead on a an early restart. Cory Houdek chased Hanson for the balance of the race which was interrupted at least three times by the caution flag. Houdek tried one last time to get close enough to pull alongside after a the final caution with four laps remaining but couldn’t pull it off, eventually settling for second. Greg Hentrich posted another strong run finishing third.
Finally, in Carpetland USA Late Models, Tim Plummer scored his third win of the season in a feature that also saw frequent appearances by the caution flag. Brad Osborn had built a sizable early lead but it was erased by a yellow and on lap three Plummer rocketed around him. Osborn and Caleb Adrian spent the rest of the race battling for second trading the spot back a and forth a couple different times. Osborn took the spot for the final time after a restart with eight laps remaining forcing Adrian to settle for third. Scott Siems recovered from an earlier spin to finish fourth and Logan Mitchell was fifth after being involved in an earlier accident.
In the interest of competition, the Miller Time Modifieds are on break until June 20 when a couple more cars are expected to be ready to join the field.
