VAN METER NIGHT THIS FRIDAY NIGHT AT HAWKEYE DOWNS
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (June 12, 2012) – For more than 80 years Hawkeye Downs Speedway has entertained eastern Iowa racing fans.
Likewise, for over 80 years,100% employee-owned Van Meter incorporated has provided high quality Electrical, Lighting, Power Transmission, DataComm, Mechanical, and other products to eastern Iowa and the Midwest through 12 branch locations and their main distribution center in Cedar Rapids..
For the past several years, Van Meter incorporated has teamed up with Hawkeye Downs to provide racing fans the opportunity to witness a great night of racing including celebrity races, and to donate to a great cause at the same time.
This year Van Meter has chosen “Aiming for a Cure” to receive proceeds from “Van Meter Night at the Races.” The Mission of the Aiming For A Cure Foundation is to raise funds to benefit pediatric oncology patients and families served by University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Their goal is to improve the quality of care and quality of lives of these children through the funding of research and patient care.
Fans can do their part to help Van Meter and “Aiming for a Cure” to reach their goal by attending Friday nights’ racing at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Admission is a minimum donation of $1.00 with donations of all amounts beyond that appreciated.
A special Celebrity Race featuring University of Wresting Coach Tom Brands, Former Cedar Rapids Jefferson and University of Iowa wrestler Mark Ironside, and Van Meter CFO Mick Slinger is scheduled during Intermission. The trio will drive Legends cars in the special race.
The six divisions of the Papa Johns Cup/i-Wireless Championship series will also be in action Friday night. The Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Budweiser Modifieds, Sunline Hornets, Dublin City Pub Legends, and Performance Concepts Late Models will all take to the track battling for valuable series and Hard Charger points.
The i-Wireless Lil’Racer Car Club is also hosting “Kids with Cancer Night” in conjunction with Van Meter Night. The kids will be signed into the club, and be provided with snacks. There will be face painting available, and many other fun events! We also will be having a meet and greet with some of our drivers. There will also be a ‘ride along’ raffle drawing!
The Front Gate opens at 6pm with Hot Laps slated for 6:35 pm. Pre-Race Ceremonies will begin at 7:15pm with the first race at 7:30pm.
