Jordan Miles Scores First Career Win

By: Jerry Mackey

Maquoketa, Iowa: Following a week of no racing as the Jackson County Fairgrounds hosted a large Dog Competition Show the racing action returned on Saturday night with 121 race teams putting on an exciting night of racing as the races were hurried along to beat the approaching rain storm. The 25 race program was run in very swift fashion with the final checkered flag of the night waving at 9:35 as lightening filled the skies.

The 25 lap IMCA Late Model feature saw veteran driver Andy Nezworski drive his number 7 very patiently to the front from his eighth position start and overtake Jaden Fryer late in the main to go on and score the win. Fryer had a strong run in taking second ahead of Steve Johnson.

Charlie Mohr is riding a hot streak at Maquoketa in the Kunes Nissan IMCA Modified division. Mohr was the third leader in the feature but he was out front when the checkers flew taking the 20 lap win ahead of Jeff Larson and Ryan Duhme.

Jeff Larson had a busy day, winning in the Modified at the Jones County Fair and racing two classes on Saturday night at the Maquoketa Speedway. Larson scored his second feature win of the day by taking the checkers first in the QCJeeps.com IMCA Stock Car feature. Jacob Ellithorpe threw a slider at Larson on the final lap but Larson was able to cross under Ellithorpe for the win. Jerry Miles was also able to get by Ellithorpe, who finished third.

A strong field of Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmods put on their usual action packed feature with three and four wide throughout the main event. Jason Roth brought his number 31 Sportmod to Maquoketa on Saturday night and finished up the night with a trip to Oly’s Garage Victory Lane. Roth scored the win ahead of Levi Gaunt and Tyler Soppe.

It is always special to see a driver win his first ever main event and on Saturday night that was the case in the Ueland Auto IMCA Hobby Stock Class. Jordan, one of the many racing Miles brothers and one of three Miles’ that were racing Saturday night scored his first of what will be many feature wins. Jordan Miles held off the one of the best in Hobby Stock racing, Randy LaMar in scoring the win. Jordan ran a perfect race in scoring his very first career win.

Michael Weber added another feature win to his resume at the Maquoketa Speedway in the INEX Legends class. The win was Weber’s fourth of the season, coming from a 9th position start, Weber took the win over Jeff Schmidt and Jordan Miklas.

Mitch Bielenberg arrived at the Speedway late on Saturday night and had to tag a heat race, but the late arrival proved to not be an issue. Starting 9th in the main event, Bielenberg drove his number 12 to the front and went on to win the Hawkeye Auto Sport Compact main event. Jacob Welter took second ahead of Roy Schmidt.

Saturday night the Midwest Jalopy Club visited the Maquoketa Speedway with nine of the coolest old coupes racing on the ¼ mile. Maquoketa driver Kile Vohringer drove a 1934 Plymouth Coupe to the win ahead of Matt Fulton Jr. in a 1947 Ford.

The Jackson County Fair will be in full swing this week and Stock Car Racing will take center stage at the Fair on Wednesday, July 26th. Late Models will headline the racing program which will also include, Sportmods, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts, AIRS and Mini Late Models.
