2012 Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge Entry Forms Available

KNOXVILLE, IOWA  (June 11, 2012)  –  Entry forms for the nineteenth annual Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge, to be held on Friday, August 10, during the 52nd annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals, are now available on Knoxville Raceway’s web site at http://www.knoxvilleraceway.com/Files/Entry-Forms A record seventeen Americans qualified for the $10,000-to-win event by competing in one of three international qualifiers held this past winter in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia and Palmerston North and Auckland, New Zealand.

The only major change in this year’s invitational is that it will feature a 12-car inversion based upon qualifying night points for the starting line-up, as opposed to the 16-car inversion that has been used in recent years.  According to Tom Schmeh, who co-founded the World Challenge back in 1994 with Jon Evans, Ralph Capitani and the late Ian Sheppard, “David Mills of the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool last year suggested that we decrease the inversion to make it a better race.  I then spoke to Knoxville Raceway general manager Toby Kruse this past week and we agreed to give it a try in 2012.  With Americans like Sammy Swindell, Donny Schatz, Jason Meyers, Tim Shaffer, Craig Dollansky, Shane Stewart, Jason Johnson, Daryn Pittman and Kyle Larson all eligible in 2012, plus Australians like Kerry Madsen, Brooke Tatnell and Lynton Jeffrey, I think it’s going to possibly be the most competitive World Challenge ever.”

Past Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge champions include Lucas Wolfe (USA, 2011), Craig Dollansky (USA, 2010), Lynton Jeffrey (AUS, 2009), Kerry Madsen (AUS, 2008), Dean Jacobs (USA, 2007), Brooke Tatnell (AUS, 2006), Daryn Pittman (USA, 2004, ‘05), Travis Rilat (USA, 2003), Donny Schatz (USA, 2001, ’02), Danny Lasoski (USA, 2000), Randy Hannagan (USA, 1999), A.J. “Skip” Jackson (AUS, 1995, ’97, ’98), Danny Smith (USA, 1996), and Max Dumesny (AUS, 1994).

The top fifteen drivers in the all-time Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge money-won list are Brooke Tatnell ($34,700), Donny Schatz ($34,600), Kerry Madsen ($29,325), Daryn Pittman ($27,600), A.J. ”Skip” Jackson ($26,450), Lynton Jeffrey ($22,000), Danny Smith ($20,750), Ricky Logan ($17,950), Craig Dollansky ($17,375), Lucas Wolfe ($15,000), Shane Stewart ($12,675), Danny Lasoski ($12,500), Travis Rilat ($11,800), Randy Hannagan ($11,100), and Jason Johnson ($11,100).

Overall, thirty-nine (39) American drivers have earned $297,425 since 1994, whereas twenty-one (21) Australians have collected $159,485.  In addition, over the course of the eighteen Knoxville World Challenges, seven (7) Canadians have claimed $15,400 and six (6) New Zealanders have netted $7,850.  In total, seventy-three (73) sprint car drivers have won $480,160 while competing in the Knoxville World Challenge.
