Krieger back in the winner’s circle

BURLINGTON, IOWA ( May 26, 2012) – 34 Raceways Memorial weekend two day shows started off big Saturday night May 26 with a big crowd and some big wins. $5.00 admission night brought out the race fans to 34 Raceway and they were treated to some exciting finishes.
The National Guard provided some added activities and a local Color Guard paraded in front of the grandstands before the start of the National Anthym as we remember those who served our nation. Andy Krieger, Burlington picked up his first modified feature win since 2008 and Joey Gower, Quincy, Il. raced to his first IMCA Late Model win at 34 Raceway this season. Picking up repeat wins were Jim Lynch, Donnellson (stock cars), Jake Wenig, Burlington, (hobby stocks) and Tony Dunker, Quincy, Il. (sport mods). The vintage cars also provided some racing action taking on the 3/8 mile.
Coming up this week, Friday, June 2 is Sam’s Body Shop Night with racing action for the IMCA Late Models, W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Coors Silver Bullet Modifieds, Mike’s Auto Parts Stock Cars, I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders and the Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods return for their second straight week.
Andy Krieger hasn’t won a modified feature since 2008. But this week changed that when Krieger held off Scott Hogan and Brandon Rothzen in a tight, bumper to bumper race. With one lap to go Rothzen pulled along side Krieger on the back stretch but Krieger wouldn’t give up his lead spot. With Hogan right behind Rothzen, he was able to get by Rothzen for second and went low to pass Kreiger in turn four but couldn’t get the job done and Krieger went on to take the checkered flag for a long awaited win.
Jim Lynch, Donnellson battled Abe Huls through much of the seventeen car, twenty lap lap Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Car feature pulling off a narrow victory, his second this season. Another bumper to bumper action filled race gave fans a show with the top four running bumper to bumper for much of the second half of the race. Lynch took the checkered flag by a car length ahead of Huls, who was followed by Matt Greiner and Brett Timmerman.
Quincy’s Joey Gower took the lead of the fourteen car IMCA Late Model feature on the first lap never being able to pull away from Todd Malmstrom throughout the twenty five lap feature race. As Gower and Malmstrom pulled away from the field several battles went on throughout the field but it would be Gower getting his first 2012 34 Raceway by several car lengths after pulling away from Malmstrom on the final lap.
Two days before Saturday nights racing action at 34 Raceway, Burlington’s Jake Wenig had knee surgery. But that didn’t stop him from his passion and would take the lead from Josh Tripp in the Pepsi Hobby Stock feature on the final lap of the fifteen lap race to get his third win this season. Tripp would finish second and Matt Gavin would follow in third.
Tony Dunker took the lead from John Oliver, jr. on lap thirteen of the fifteen lap Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mod feature for his second win this season. The final three laps wee bumper to bumper with Oliver and Scott Van Buskirk and Vance Wilson. On the final lap Van Buskirk would nearly roll his car on the back stretch as Dunker took the checkered flag followed by Oliver.
