Second Hobby Stock qualifier goes to VanLaningham
BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 1) – Jesse VanLaningham led the last six circuits in winning Monday’s second Hobby Stock qualifying feature at Boone Speedway, securing a front row start in the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s main event on Saturday.
Austin Luellen and Corey Madden set the fast pace most of the first 19 laps before falling out. Ninth starting Benji Irvine and Brandon Beeter both did their best to pressure VanLaningham but settled for second and third, respectively.
Completing the top eight and also advancing to the middle row of Saturday’s main event were John Watson, Tyler Pickett, Tyson Overton, Jason Kohl and Eric Gillette. Andy Boeckman was disqualified from fourth in post-race engine inspection.
Watson qualified for the Saturday show for the fifth time in his career, Kohl for the fourth and VanLaningham and Pickett both for the third.
Irvine is in for the second time. Beeter is the first North Dakota driver to make the Hobby Stock main event at Super Nationals. Overton and Gillette will also make their Saturday night debuts.
