| June 2, 2012

CONCORD, NC – June 1, 2012 – Jim Moon of Zionsville, Ill. (Late Models) and Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind. (UMP Modifieds) remained atop their respective divisional national standings following Week 18 action on the DIRTcar UMP circuit.

Moon, a 40-year-old known as the ‘Moon Man’ in Midwestern racing circles, stayed on top of the full-fender rankings for the second consecutive week. His 24 counted UMP-sanctioned starts are the most of any driver in the Late Model class, which has its standings determined using competitors’ best 35 finishes/points nights.

While Moon has yet to score a feature win this season, but he continued his steady performances over the Memorial Day weekend. He rang up fourth-place finishes on May 25 at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., and May 27 at Quincy (Ill.) Raceways and ran fifth on May 26 at Montgomery County Speedway in New Florence, Mo.
Moon extended his edge from 10 to 50 points (1,177-1,127) over veteran Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., whose holiday-weekend record included his sixth overall win of the season on May 25 at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway and a fourth-place outing on May 26 at Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway.

Gilpin, meanwhile, extended his UMP Modified national points lead from 71 to 161 points (1,654-1,493) over Nick Allen of Wheatfield, Ind., with a spectacular Memorial Day weekend of racing.

The talented Gilpin was unbeatable over the holiday, rolling to four wins in as many starts. His triumphs, which pushed his overall 2012 win total to 12, came on May 24 at Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track; May 25 at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio; and May 26 and 27 at Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park.
