Three in a Row on the Horizon for the Lucas Oil MLRA
Wheatland, MO (June 9, 2015) – This weekend marks the first trip of the year to Iowa for the Lucas Oil MLRA. An early May trip was scheduled, but it was cancelled due to heavy precipitation. Thursday action originates from the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Friday the series moves southeast to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. Saturday wraps up the weekend in Moberly, Missouri at Randolph County Raceway.
Through the first seven events of the season Terry Phillips leads the way in the championship standings. Ryan Gustin is currently second, 26 markers back. Jason Utter is third, 20 points behind Gustin. Jeremy Payne and RC Whitwell are fourth and fifth respectively.
Jesse Stovall heads into the weekend eighth in the standings, but carrying a ton of momentum. Stovall has won four total races since the first of May, including The Lucas Oil MLRA Saturday finale two weekends ago at Park Jefferson International Speedway.
“This last stretch of races has definitely been good for me,” said Stovall. “I also know how quickly it can turn around for me to not be running well too. I’m a lot more appreciative of a good streak now, compared to how I used to feel. I’m also much more grateful overall. Bill Swafford has been there through thick and thin and has faith in me no matter what. That support is really important to have.”
Stovall was also the runner up in the Cowboy Classic, amongst a field of 80 cars. He is also scheduled to start on the outside pole of the Show Me 100, when it is completed in July. This week he also took a five position jump, to 16th, in the DirtonDirt.com weekly rankings.
“The Cowboy Classic really gave me the most confidence in this race car. To come forward against the competition in that race really was huge for me. I also have a new crew chief, Tony Rogers aka “Tommy Boy.” He can do it all when it comes to preparing a race car. He’s put the drive back in me.”
His points standing is due to early season engine trouble at I-80 Speedway where he lost two nights of racing. Despite the setback he remains unfazed in his goal of running out the year with the Lucas Oil MLRA.
“The points are all out of my control now. If I can keep winning races and running up front, I’m sure we can climb a few more spots, but to make it to the top will be just bad luck on my competitors part. Multiple guys will have to have several bad nights for me to have a shot of winning it. I want to keep the pressure on though, because that means we are taking care of business on our end. Right now I’m just looking at these next three races and am excited to get back on the track.”
This three race swing was also contested last year in the same order. The feature winners were; John Anderson, Terry Phillips and Ryan Gustin.
