Tompkins Industries Night at the Races I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, MO (June 27, 2015) –  USRA Modifieds would take to the track first in a make-up feature from May 16, 2015 and would set the stage for a great night of racing action.  Heat race winner Dennis Elliott #29 would start on the front row and lead every lap on his way to McCarthy Auto-Group Victory Circle.  Elliott would be challenged early by other heat race winner Zach Sanders #69 who would go on to place second.  Michael Dotson #55d would make an impressive charge to the front finishing third holding Tyler Grooms #92 to fourth.  Jim Hopkins #71 would see yet another solid finish by placing fifth.  Other heat race winner was Jim Moody #00.

Back to the track in fine form the Midwest Lightning Sprints while low in number were high in quality.  I-35 Speedway fans would see the familiar face of repeat winner Mark K. Billings #51 taking the checkers as he would get the lead early and never relinquish the top spot.  Heat race winner Tom Brown #b20 would mount a late race charge only to come up short and place second at the line.  Alyssa Lasater driving the Kenny Bowers prepared #49 would impress all by coming through the field to place third.  Ken Billings #85 and Tyler Miller #25m would battle to the checkers with Billings fourth and Miller rounding out the top five.

Next to tackle the fast smooth three-eighths mile of dirt were the always entertaining E-Modifieds.  Point leader and heat race winner John Brown #36j continues his consistent ways by notching another victory this 2015 racing season.  Jeremiah Asher #02xa would challenge every lap but was unable to find a way around the fast Brown and would finish second.  Other heat race winner Jacob Blair #81, in his rookie season, would continue to impress holding off Corey Myers #15 as they would finish third and fourth respectively.  Daniel Harris #319 would race his way through the pack to place a solid fifth.

Hobby Stocks were next onto the track with the familiar face of 2014 Track Champion Mich Ross #34 standing tall in victory lane.  Ross would battle with heat race winner and point leader Tyler Clark #0x early in the feature as Clark would fade late to place second.  Other heat race winner Conner Masoner #13x would challenge the top two contenders only to come up short and place third.  Justin Atkins #15 would finish fourth with Geary Phillips #47 fifth.

Grand Nationals would see heat race winner Donnie Brown #26 take the early lead and appear to be the car to beat until mechanical issues would take him from winning contention.  As Brown would fade Austin Johnson #98 would capitalize and take the point for the remainder of the feature and on to victory circle.  Houston Johnson #97 would battle Buz Kaster #54 to the flag with Houston Johnson second and Kaster third.  Jeff Elder #7 continues to improve week after week notching a solid fourth place finish.  One time leader Donnie Brown would fade late and end the night placing fifth.  Other heat race winner was Marty Powell #9p.

In their fourth appearance at I-35 Speedway this 2015 racing season the Non-Wing Sprints would not disappoint.  Mitchell Moore #51 would use heat race win momentum to propel his hotrod out front and lead every lap on his way to claiming the checkers.  Big mover of the race was Cody Baker #38, who would challenege Moore for the lead only to settle for second place.  Chris Parkinson #65 would battle other heat race winner Bradlee Ryun #19 tooth and nail edging Ryun at the line to place third, leaving Ryun to fourth.  John Helm #12 would round out the feature’s top five.

As the green flag dropped on the USRA B-Modifieds Steve Starmer #11s and Dustin Miller #52m would lead the field through turns one and two.  Miller would take the early advantage leading the majority of the feature.  One slip off turn three was all it would take for Dakota Foster #5, coming through the pack, to take the lead and calm the night’s victory.  Miller would recover to finish second with Starmer placing third.  Tim Eaton #211 again would show poise and consistency as he would place fourth.  Big mover of the feature was Shadren Turner #17t who would have to tag to the rear of the field after an early race caution and would race his way to finish fifth.  Heat race winners included Dustin Miller #52m, Steve Starmer #11s, and Danan Knott #18k.

Racing in the USRA Stock Car division as always was fast and competitive.  Thomas Roberts #65x would again see the checkers first and claim the night’s top spot.  Roberts was challeneged early and often by Jon Boller Jr #20x, who would place second on this night of racing.  Richard Moulton #18 would have his best showing of the 2015 racing season by placing a personal best third.  Billie Hoover #21h and Chad Walker #04 would duel it out to the end with Hoover fourth and Walker fifth at the line.  Two heat race winners and early feature leaders Dean Wray #77 and Jason Estes #997 would have contact off turn four, taking both drivers out of winning contention.

Ending a night of great racing action at I-35 Speedway the USRA Modifieds would see Dennis Elliott #29 pick up his second feature win on the night.  Heat race winner Elliott and other heat race winner Darren Shaw #11 would start side by side in row one.  Shaw would take the early lead using the high line only to see Elliott fire back by on the inside and claim the win.  Shaw would be in contention to the checkers and finish the night in second place.  Zach Sanders #69 would challenege the two front runners often only to end the night third.  Ronnie Woods #53 and Derrick Hicks #78 would battle to the checkers with Woods fourth and Hicks fifth.
