Claussen collects Street Stock Clash cash
DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 3, 2015) – The temperature was cool, but the tempers were red hot, Friday at the Davenport Speedway. The main attraction of the evening was the Fourth of July Street Stock Clash with a $2,000 top prize awaiting the winner.
The 50-lap feature started with outside pole sitter Rob Henry leading lap one. Cary Brown took over the top spot on lap two. By lap ten, the field had strung out with Brown leading, Henry in second, Jarrett Franzen third, Korey Peterson fourth, and Donnie Louck fifth. The top five would stay in that order for the next twenty-four laps. None of those five would finish in the top ten.
On lap thirty-five, the first caution flag flew as Franzen made contact with Rob Henry causing him to spin. The caution flag would fly another seven times over the next ten laps, before the race was called with two laps remaining.
In the end, it was Davenport’s Nick Claussen taking the win and the big check. Josh Neal was credited with second, over Perry Gellerstedt, Rob Nylin, and Cord Williams. Only nine cars finished on the lead lap.
Justin Kay made it four straight in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Kay took the lead on lap thirteen and led the rest of the way to the checkers.
Joe Ross grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and led the first eight laps. Andy Nezworski led laps nine through twelve, before yielding to Kay.
Matt Ryan made a late race move to finish second behind Kay,with Nezworski third. Brunson Behning finished fourth, just ahead of Chuck Hanna.
Jason Pershy won a riveting Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature that went green, white, checkered. Pershy led the first lap of the race, with Kevin Blum taking over on lap two. Blum’s car would go up in smoke on lap three, with Pershy going back into the lead.
Doug Crampton would take his turn at the front on lap eight, but Pershy would again take the lead on lap ten. This time Jason led the rest of the way to the checkers.
Rich Smith finished second, Crampton settled for third, and Terry Rentfro finished fourth. Matt Werner rounded out the top five.
Tony Olson continued his winning ways in Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod action. Jake Morris led the first six laps of the feature, with Olson taking over after a lap seven restart. The victory was Olson’s third of the year at Davenport. Morris would hold on to finish second, while Dustin Crear took third. Bryce Garnhart and Phil Anderson finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Zach Dahl captured his second win of the season in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock division. Dahl led the last eleven laps of the twelve lap race. Brandon Dahl took second. Luke Benischek, Jake Benischek, and Brandon Setser finished third through fifth, in that order.
The racing action continues at the Davenport Speedway next Friday, July 10th. Powder Puff races will be held after the weekly racing program.
