30th annual Deery Series opens with $5,000 to win show at Davenport
DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 5, 2016) – The premier series for Late Models in the Midwest takes the first green flag of its 30th season on Friday, April 8 at Davenport Speedway.
Five thousand dollars is the winner’s share of the purse for the Deery Brothers Summer Series opener. The 50-lap Rebel 5K special pays a minimum of $300 to start while night two of the weekend doubleheader takes touring IMCA Late Models to West Liberty Raceway for a $2,000 to win show on Saturday, April 9.
“We are really looking forward to kicking off the season again at Davenport and it should be an outstanding weekend of Late Model racing,” said Tour Director Kevin Yoder. “Anticipation is always high in April, but you can really feel it this year.”
Eighteen events in all fill the 2016 schedule. Pit gates open at 1 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. for the series opener at Davenport. Hot laps on the quarter-mile oval follow the 6 p.m. drivers’ meeting with racing set for 6:30 p.m.
Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and free for kids 11 and under when accompanying a paid adult.

West Liberty opens the gates at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.
Spectator admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $10 for students ages 13-17 and free for 12 and under. Also running are Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds for all applicable points.

Two-time defending series champion Justin Kay of Wheatland has won two of the last three Deery events held at Davenport.
Brian Harris of Davenport and Kay were series winners in 2015 at West Liberty; Kay has won five Deery features there since 2013.
Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown has competed at all 451 events through the series’ first 29 seasons, winning 13 times.
New to the Deery format this season is the $300 to win Malvern Trust and Savings Bank Dash for Cash at all events with 32 or more entries. Point funds totaling $9,325 will be paid to top 10 drivers in standings midway through and at the conclusion of the tour.
