Columbus Junction, IA (Friday, May 6, 2016) – The CJ Speedway got back to action on Friday with the Modified Spectacular, after a mother nature took the week prior. Seven hundred and fifty dollars was on the line for the P&L Transportation Modifieds, with Colt Mather topping the field of twenty-two cars to take home the top prize.

The first feature to take to the track was the 16 lap Tyson Fresh Meats SportMods, with Andrew Swailes and Troy Philpott leading the field to the green. But it was third place starter Dan Keltner who jumped into the lead on lap 1. Keltner then worked to hold off the challenges of Colton Livezey and Brett Lowry. A late caution would bunch the field up, and on the restart Lowry would slip under Keltner to take over the top spot. Lowry then held on to pick up his first win of the season at CJ. Keltner was 2nd, Livezey was 3rd, Philpott was 4th, with Cory Griffin rounding out the top 5.

Up next was 10 lap Mod Lite feature, with Michael Dominguez and Robert Guss making up the front row. Dominguez would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1. Brad Lucy would pressure Dominguez the entire 10 laps, as the two came off turn four on the final lap side-by-side. Dominguez was able to edge out the win, to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Lucy settled for 2nd, Guss was 3rd, Wyatt Wilkerson was 4th, with Jimmy Halcomb coming home in 5th.

Cody VanDusen and John Whalen led the field to the green flag in the Louisa Communications IMCA Sport Compact feature, with VanDusen jumping out front to lead lap 1. While VanDusen set the pace out front, Darin Smith, who started 8th, was working his way towards the front. Even with a late race restart VanDusen was able to hold off Smith to claim his first win of the season at the track. Smith was 2nd, Bill Whalen Jr. was 3rd, Brandon Schultheis finished 4th, and Richard Hurlbut came from 10th to finish in 5th.

Up next was the Kauffman Electric IMCA Stock Car feature, with Dane Fenton and Adam Bell making up the front row for the start. Bell would edge out Fenton at the line to lead lap 1, with Tad Payne and John Oliver Jr. battling for the third spot. A couple laps later Oliver Jr. moved into the runner spot and then pressured Bell for the top spot. Oliver Jr. tried to get under Bell until midway through the race when he pulled off with mechanical troubles to end his night. This would move Kirk Kinsley in the second spot, who recovered from the first lap crash. Kinsley then tried everything to get the lead away from Bell. But Bell was able to hold him off to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Kinsley settled for 2nd, Payne was 3rd, Jake Wenig started 9th and finished 4th, with Fenton rounding out the top 5.

Troy Cordes and Colt Mather drew the front row for the 25 lap P&L Transportation Modified Spectacular, with Mather grabbing the lead on the drop of the green flag, over Cordes and Jim Redmann. With Mather out front, Cordes, Redman, Brandon Banks and Andrew Schroeder, who started 11th, battling for the runner up spot. Schroeder would work his way into the runner up spot by the midway mark of the race. But without a caution to bring Mather back to his front bumper, there was no catching him. As Mather went on to claim the win and the $750 top prize. Schroeder was 2nd, Redmann was 3rd, Banks was 4th, with Steve Stewart coming from 12th to round out the top 5.

The final feature to take to the track was the 8 lap Kemper Trucking CJ Mini Haulers, with Drake Fenton and Jerad Ruble leading the field to the drop of the green flag. But third place starter Jacob Brown would grab the lead on lap 1 over Ruble and Billy Stanford. Brown then went on to lead all 8 laps to pick up his second win in a row at the track. Ruble was 2nd, Stanford was 3rd, and Fenton was 4th.
