Darren Berry gets victory in the United Rebel Sprint Series!

| July 9, 2017

North Platte, Nebraska (July 8, 2017) – On a mission from the onset, Darren Berry of McCook was a force to be reckoned with in scoring the victory in the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) Ron Williams/Dick Myers Memorial Feature on Saturday evening at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Nebraska. Joining Berry in the winner’s circle on Saturday night were Jeremy Herbst, Casey Werkmeister and Dillon Schultz.

Leading every lap of the Williams/Myers memorial feature was Darren Berry of McCook. Berry was able to persevere through the late caution flags and work through traffic with ease to the tune of a big payday in the spotlighted event on Saturday evening. Doing his best to stalk the leader throughout the feature event was Jake Martens of Fairview, Oklahoma. Martens was within striking distance on many of the restarts, but it was Berry that was able to take advantage of the clean air ahead and Martens was forced to settle with runner-up accolades. Making the charge onto the podium from his starting position was Nate Berry of McCook. Nate Berry was a strong contender for much of the second half of the feature event to finish third overall. Terry Richards of Denton, Nebraska made a big move on the second to last restart to move inside the top five where he finished as the fourth place finisher. Following the lead, Ty Williams of Arcadia, Oklahoma was able to pull the rabbit out of the hat on the final restart to advance inside the top five to finish fifth overall. Zach Blurton of Quinter, Kansas; Stu Snyder of Lincoln, and Tracey Hill of Liberal, Kansas all started their night off right with heat race wins.

Starting on the outside of the front row, Jeremy Herbst of North Platte took the lead early on and set sail to power his way to the IMCA Modified Feature win. Herbst was able to stay up on the wheel throughout the feature to hold off any and all challenges in the waning laps. Working through traffic with grace and patience was the key to success for Ogallala’s Cole Hodges to earn runner-up honors after he crossed the finish line in third place but was moved forward in the top five when a higher finishing hot rod failed the post-race tech. inspection. Hodges started on the inside of the third row when the green flag was waved and drove his way to the podium finish with a strong second half of the race. Doing his best to rally on the cushion during the feature event was Jay Steffens of North Platte as he conquered the rubber-down track in the waning laps to earn third place honors. Troy Douglas of North Platte overcame a heat race incident along with Cozad’s Colton Osborn to finish fourth and fifth in the feature.

Grabbing the lead just past the halfway point, Maywood’s Casey Werkmeister was able to make the pass for the lead and then cruise to the IMCA Stock Car Feature victory. Werkmeister started on the outside of the fourth row and was able to pilot his hotrod to the front of the field on the 11th lap by going to the top side and riding the cushion to the front, a place that Werkmeister never relinquished the rest of the feature. Leading the way from the beginning was Jim Hagan of Lexington as he started on the outside of the front row. Hagan took advantage of the opportunity to hold the lead for the first 10 laps of the feature until Werkmeister took the lead. Hagan showed no ill effects of the pass for the lead as he stayed consistent in hitting his marks as he scored a runner-up finish for his efforts. Staying among the lead group throughout the feature and working his magic on the bottom groove of the oval, Jeff Whiting crossed the finish line in third place overall in the feature. Flyin’ Farmer Kyle Clough of Wallace and Maywood’s Kyle Werkmeister rounded out the top five with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.

Slicing and dicing through the early traffic, Dillon Schultz of North Platte was able to avoid incidence and garner the lead on the fourth circuit and never look back to claim the checkers in the IMCA Northern Sport Modified feature. Using his experience to his advantage, veteran wheelman Bryan Herrick piloted his ‘Rubber Duck’ hot rod to a runner-up finish. Herrick started on the inside of the third row and during the final laps of the feature event, he was able to find speed to burn to earn the place position when the checkered flag was waved. In a very close finish for the final podium finish, Zach Schultz of North Platte was able to edge Gary Long of Valentine by the slimmest of margins  at the checkered flag to earn third place honors. Long was joined by Adam Kackmeister of North Platte in finishing fourth and fifth in the feature.
