DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 18, 2018) – Oskaloosa, Iowa racer Cayden Carter took home the big check from the Davenport Speedway Friday night. IMCA Mod Madness brought 114 cars to the pit area making for a full and exciting night of stock car racing action.

Carter earned the victory and the $2,000 payday. Cayden took the lead of the 50-lap main three times, including leading the last sixteen laps. Previously Carter’s best finish at Mod Madness came in 2016, with a ninth place result.

The main event started with Eric Barnes of Colona, Illinois taking the early lead. Barnes and Carter would race side-by-side for a couple laps, with Carter taking the lead after a lap nine restart. Lap thirteen would see Justin Kay of Wheatland take the lead on the highside.

In lapped traffic, Carter was able to regain the top spot, but a lap later, the yellow flag waved again. On the lap twenty-seven restart, Kay again took the lead.

After back to back cautions at lap thirty-one, the high groove seemed to go away. Carter reeled in Kay again and took the lead for good. Kay finished in second, while Kyle Brown had to hold off a charging Richie Gustin for third. Eric Barnes completed the first five.

Barnes, Kurt Kile, Bruce Hanford, Rob Toland, and Bryce Garnhart won the modified heat races. B-main wins went to Gustin, Chris Zogg, and Austin Moyer.

The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature was marred by a six car pile-up on the opening lap. All drivers involved were able to walk away from the crash. The same could not be said for their cars.

When the race finally stayed green, Joe Ross led a couple laps before Andy Nezworski came to the point. Andy led the rest of the way to the checkers. Justin Kay nipped Matt Ryan in the last two laps to take second. Ryan placed third, followed by Terry Neal and Ross.

The Koehler Electric Street Stock feature went to Jeff Struck Jr., his third win already this year. Struck got under early race leader Gene Ehlers on lap ten. Ehlers finshed second. Rob Nylin, Austin Riggs, and Brad Tyler finished third through fifth in that order.

The Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature was halted by rain after only two laps. The balance of this race will be made-up next Friday.

Next Friday is School’s Out Kid’s Night at the Davenport Speedway. Children 12 and under, get free admission with a paid adult. Bike races for kids will be held during intermission.
