Hanna racks up third Davenport LM win

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 6, 2018) – The racing action is heating up this Summer, at the Davenport Speedway. Even the vintage coupes of the Midwest Jalopies had some last lap theatrics.

 

Chuck Hanna picked up his third Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature win of the season. Chuck blasted from his second row starting spot to the lead on lap one. Hanna would lead all twenty-five laps and at one point had a half lap lead over the rest of the field. Matt Ryan finished second with Andy Nezworski third. Tim Simpson and Shawn Mulvany rounded out the top five.

 

Nathan Hall picked up his first ever Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature. Hall started on the pole and led every lap en route to the win. A caution flag with three laps to go reset the field, but Hall once again pulled away to take the checkers first. Bryce Garnhart finished second, ahead of Chris Zogg, Craig Crawford, and Matt Werner.

 

Jeremy Gutaf led flag to flag in the Koehler Electric Street Stock main. Gustaf started on the pole and held off all challengers including point leader Jeff Struck Jr. and second place finisher Gene Ehlers. The victory was Gustaf’s first win of the season at Davenport. Justin Skiles would take third. Cary Brown and. Jesse Owen completed the top five.

 

Brandon Jewell avoided numerous cautions, survived the ensuing restarts, and looked to be the winner of the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature. However when he failed to clear post-race inspection, the win was given to Doug Burkhead. Dave Engelkens, in his first race at Davenport this year, was scored in second, followed by Jacob Copley, Joe Grant, and Nick Groth in that order.

 

Midwest Jalopies put on another great feature. Terry Mattly moved into the lead by the end of lap two. Rodney Haack came from deep in the field to take the lead late in the race. Mattly would have none of that. The two made contact in the final corner that sent Mattly across the finish line first and Haack spinning across the stripe for second.

 

Next Friday, July 13th, the racing action is focused on the Street Stock Clash. $2,000 will go to the winner of the Street Stock A-Main. Late Models, Modifieds, and SportMods, will be racing for track points.
