Dorssom, Hill, And McCaulley All Hit The High Note During Speed And Song Night At I-35 Speedway

(Winston, MO) Three divisions were showcased Friday night At I-35 Speedway during a doubleheader weekend. The evening also marked the first this year for, Speed and Song Night, as following the final race, music group, Dammit Jim And The Rednecks entertained the crowd.

 

The Pure Stocks lead the features for the evening. Ron Hill started from inside row one, with Beau Wells to his outside. At the exit of turn two, Hill raced out the the pack to the lead, with Wayne Brooke, Wells, Blaine Younts, Keith Jennings, Cody Ohrenburg, and Rylee Fuller in close pursuit. Hill kept the rest of the field in his rear view mirror, scoring, one for the thumb, his fifth victory, and his third in a row. Beau Wells finished 2nd, Keith Jennings 3rd, Blain Younts 4th, and Cody Ohrenburg 5th.

 

The Sports Compacts rolled out onto the high banked track next. John Willard started on the pole, with David Miller III next to him. At the start of the race, Miller grabbed the lead out of turn two. Not to be denied, Willard was inches away in second. The pair raced lap after lap, continuing their close battle. Willard was unable to get by Miller on the final lap after several attempts to do so. The win appeared to be Miller’s 3rd of the year. However, during post race inspection, both Miller and Willard were disqualified, and Oak Grove, Missouri native, Richard McCaulley, who finished a close third, was credited with the win, his second of the season.

 

The final race of the evening featured the, E-Mods. Leroy Morrison started on the pole, with Kameron Haynes. Morrison added to the bonus payout prior to the event, which stated at $500 to win. Morrison took the lead first, as the high speed traffic jam ran down into turn one. Morrison held the lead for a couple of laps, but a hard charging Hanes grabbed the front position, looking like the car to beat. Matt Dorssom, the current E-Mod points leader, attempted to pass Hanes for several laps, and was able to do so just past the midway point of the race. During a late caution flag, Hanes race car suddenly pulled off the track to the infield, ending his night. Morrison succumbed to the same fate unfortunately, on the front stretch. Shaunie Lanning has been racing her way through the pack from her stating position outside row six, and was just behind Dorssom for the, green, white checkered, restart. Unfortunately, another caution flag flew, setting up a one lap shoot out for the win. Dorssom kept Lanning behind him after a good restart, earning him a 6th trip to McCarthy Auto Group victory lane, and the third win in a row. An excited Dorssom was very happy and relieved to have out lasted the group, especially Lanning, for the victory.

 

Tonight, Saturday June 8, I-35 Speedway Will host the second night of the doubleheader, featuring Eight Divisions of Racing, including the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series A-Mods, Out Pace B-Mods, American Racer Stock Cars, along with the E-Mods, Pure Stocks, MIdwest Limited Late Models, Sport Compacts, with a special visit from the, Midwest Outlaw Vintage Racers, for Casey’s Night At The Races. The Little Buddies Kids Power Wheels (6 & 12 Volt) will be competing during intermission as well.
