Bellm, Carpenter, Turpin, and Register Take Wins at Double X
CALIFORNIA, MO (June 24, 2012)- Double X Speedway welcomed two series to the track on Sunday as Kyle Bellm of Nixa took the ASCS Warrior region race and Lanny Carpenter of Clarksburg became the first repeat winner of the Wingless Auto Racing season. Jefferson City’s Curt Turpin was the winner of the Cooper Racing street stocks and Will Register registered another win in the Robby D’s hobby stocks.
Bellm led from start to finish with the ASCS Warriors, but he faced extreme pressure from Sedalia’s Jonathan Cornell in the closing laps. With just a couple of laps left and Cornell right on his tail, Bellm made contact with a lapped car slowing him. With nowhere to go, Cornell ran into Bellm and spun to a stop ending his shot of victory. Bellm went on the win as he was chased by California’s Tyler Blank. Brad Graham of Springfield was third followed by Lone Jack’s Cody Baker, who came from deep in the pack. Austin Alumbaugh of Higginsville rounded out the top five. Jay Russell was sixth and Cornell rebounded from his late spin to run seventh. Curtis Boyer was eighth with Taylor Walton and Matt Close rounding out the top ten. Heat races for the nineteen car field were won by Blank, Close, and Bellm.
In the WAR feature, Carpenter caught a break early as Marshall’s Frank Brown beat Carpenter into turn one on the start two different times to see yellow flags before a lap could be completed. The third time was the charm as Carpenter beat Brown into turn one and the lead. Carpenter would lead all twenty laps, but the final one was the toughest as Brown and Clinton’s Steven Cross made it very interesting. Carpenter won by a couple of car lengths as Brown edged Cross by about a wheel length for second. Jeff Wingate of Centertown was fourth and Chad Tye of Indepence was fifth. Heat races were won by John Helm and Josh Stephens with Austin Alumbaugh setting fast time.
In the Cooper Racing street stocks, Turpin survived a wild feature that saw many yellows. He was chased by point leader Derek Henson of Russellville and Dale Berry of Tuscumbia. Paul Snyder of Wellsville, KS and Jim Keeran of California rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by John Clancy Jr. of California and Berry.
Register picked up his another win in the Robbie D’s hobby stocks as he was chased by A.J. Wirts of California and Rudy Wirts of California. Jeff Buford of Alma and John Shane of Florence rounded out the top five.
Racing will continue next Sunday with the 360 sprints, street stocks, and hobby stocks being joined by the ULMA late models and the Triple Crown Shootout Championship.
