Reynolds Wins Big on Albert Auto Night in Indee

Independence, Iowa (May 15, 2021) – Saturday Night everybody wondered if the Independence Motor Speedway would get the race night in as people continued to check the radar. Mother nature tried to spoil the fun with light rain shower but the race track just before hot laps but the race track was ready for it and it only forcing a slight delay. Racing started right around 6:30pm and the final checked flag waived just before 10pm with one hundred and eighteen cars signed in for Albert Auto Night.
Hobby Stocks were $1,000 to win put there was extra money in all classes. Hard charger bonuses, heat race winners and other bonuses was added to all classes. Thanks to Albert Auto, Race XR, Hardware Hank, Momma C, Shellsburg Car & Truck Wash, Scott & Jolyne Hogan, Wes & Tab White, Jordan Bacon, Josh Bly; Burco Farms, Price Electric, Autocrafters, Cue Cattle Company, Hunter Auto Sales, American Family Insurance Agent Gail Hunter, People’s Company, Nick McCrady, Rod & Mary Grother and anonymous donor.
Fans did not go away empty handed either as their was gift certificates to Independence Businesses: Sanity Room, The Crowbar Bar & Grill, Allerton Brewing Company, Joe’s Pizza, R&R Cafe, The Trendy Tulip and Elm Tree A Gallery of Gifts. One lucky fan went home with $100, if they had the lucky frisbee with the winner’s name of the Hobby Stocks feature on it courtesy of Wes White.
First feature of the night was the Waterloo Auto Parts Sport Compacts 12 lap main event. Andrew Beiber led the opening lap before Zeke Wheeler was able to take the top spot away. Zeke Wheeler had several challenges from Cristian Grady but held him off to take the feature win. Grady finished second, Justin Hempstead was third, Timothy Hanson was fourth and Andrew Bieber came home in fifth. Hempstead was the race hard charger.
Waterloo Auto Parts Indee Cars 12 lap feature was up next on to the speedway. Matt Dales and Derek Xayasouk led the field to the green flag. Dales took the top spot early but that was short lived as Don Erger took the race lead away on lap three. Erger saw the only race caution come out on lap eight when Xayasouk spun in turn four. Erger held off Dave Rossburg and Dale Schwamman on the restart and went on to take the feature win ahead of Chad Dugan, Cole McNeal, Rossburg and Schwamman. Hard charger was Chad Dugan advancing 12 spots.
Justin Becker wrestled the race lead early from fellow front starter Brett Thomas in the Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods 16 lap feature event. Becker had several challenges from Thomas early but held him off. Becker went on claim the win with Thomas finishing second. Kyle Olson finished third, Brandon Tharp was fourth and Tony Olson was fifth. Hard chargers of the race was Kyle and Tony Olson each advancing 4 spots.
In the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event it was Dylan Thornton grabbing the early race lead. Thornton had Kip Siems in his tire tracks early. Siems made a pass for the race lead on lap nine but Thornton would not go away. The caution came out on lap 15 when Kevin Hurst went off the top of turn three. Thornton used the restart to his advantage by taking the race lead back from Siems but the caution came out on lap 18 when Ben Metcalf spun in turn four. Thornton held off Troy Cordes and Siems the final two laps to take the feature win. Cordes finished second, Derrick Stewart got by Siems for third, Siems was fourth and Greg Kastli was fifth.
Normally the Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature, is normally an exciting feature that has very few cautions. Leah Wroten led the first lap but Jason Doyle took the race lead away on lap two. The caution began to fly on lap four when Matt Burmiester spun. Cole Mather used the restart to take over the race lead on lap five, the caution came out again on lap six. Mather continued to lead through three more cautions, a pair of cautions on lap eight and a caution on lap 11. Tom Schmitt was following Mather and on lap 16, Schmitt found the right line and took the race lead away from Mather. The caution came out on lap 19 when Jerry Schipper spun in turns 1 and 2 forcing a green-white-checkered finish. Schmitt held off Mather to claim his first win a few years in Indee. Philip Holtz got by Mather on the final lap to take second. Mather, Jay Schmidt and Jason Hocken rounded out the top five. Holtz, Schmidt, Riley Hanson and Rob Twaites all moved up 12 spots.
Darren Ackerman led from start to finish in the 25 lap Dunlap Motors IMCA Late Models feature event. Ackerman led by over a straightway at one point before encountering lap traffic. Curt Martin finished a distance second, Sean Johnson was third. Logan Duffy and Bobby Hansen came home in fourth and fifth respectively. Johnson and Hansen each moved up four spots.
Final of the night was the 20 lap Albert Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks feature. Tyler Ollendieck and Jackson Vsetecka led the field to the green flag with Tyler Ollendieck taking the top spot early. The caution came out on lap six when Justin Ginther spun in turn four and then again on the restart when Jared Miller came to a stop in turn one. Ollendieck continued to lead the way but Kaden Reynolds had worked his way to second so it wasn’t going to be long before a battle of the race lead. On lap 12, Reynolds poked his nose on the inside exiting turn two and Ollendieck tried to cut him off down the back stretch however Ollendieck spun allowing Reynolds to take over the top spot. Reynolds pulled away on the restart only to see the caution on lap 17 for debris and then a caution on lap 19 forcing a green-whtie-checkered. Reynold held on to take his third win in Indee this year. Jacob Floyd, Luke Bird, Gary Ollendieck and Justin Hanson rounded ot the top five. Hanson was the race’s hard charger moving up twenty-one spots.
Next Saturday May 22nd is Myers Polaris Night at the Independence Motor Speedway. Dunlap Motors IMCA Late Models, Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds, Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars, Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods, Albert Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks, Waterloo Auto Parts Indee Cars (Micro Mods) and Waterloo Auto Parts Sport Compacts. Hot Laps scheduled at 5:45p, Racing at 6p.
Following Saturday May 29th is Rydell Night at the Races with IMCA Modifieds $1,000 to win plus the Midwest Micro Series Sprint Cars make appearance. All classes will be racing on May 29th.
