Tony Jackson Jr. ends MLRA streak at Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA, Ia. (June 3, 2021) – The Lucas Oil MLRA Late Model Series had seen nine different winners in its first nine races this season. Race number ten at the Maquoketa Speedway on Thursday would see that streak come to an end.
It was only fitting that the driver that started the streak, ended it. Missouri racer Tony Jackson Jr. captured the thirty-lap main. Jackson passed Jeremiah Hurst on lap nineteen and slowly pulled away to take the win.
Chris Simpson was also able to pass Hurst late in the race for second. Garrett Alberson finished fourth with Chad Simpson taking fifth.
The racing was intense in the feature as it went caution-free. Three of the top five finishers were past MLRA series champions. Jackson’s title came in 2013, Hurst is the defending series champion, and Chad Simpson has done it twice, 2014 and 2018.
Late model heat wins went to Jackson and Hurst. Jake Timm set the pace in qualifying with a lap of 13.851 seconds.
Jeff Larson was able to pass Jeff Aikey with two laps remaining in the Modified feature to take the win. Aikey held on for second over Mike Fryer, Chris Zogg, and Matt Short in that order.
In SportMod action Shane Paris was able to overtake early race leader Chris Burke to secure the feature win. Miles Morris finished third with Levi Laymon and Ryan Walker rounding put the top five.
Cyle Hawkins won the battle of attrition in the 4-Stock feature. Mitch Bielenberg attempted a last lap pass for the win but was denied. They were the only cars to reach the checkers.
The Nostalgic Stock Car Racing Club vintage late models rounded out the racing program. Terry Hirst in the famed “TR1” took the honors in the feature.
Next up for DRT TRAK Racing Inc. will be a night of racing at the West Liberty Raceway. The big half-mile will host the Muscatine County Fair Races on Wednesday, July 21st. Classes and other details will be announced soon.
