Even with the USRA Nationals going on Saturday night and some of the I-35 Speedway drivers away competing in the event 112 cars checked in to the pits. It was Metcalf Carstar night and boy what a beautiful night for Dirt trackin’ at it’s best!
E-Mods were the first class to hit the track for their 12 lap event. Darren Bennett made his second straight week at I-35 Speedway a successful one as he picked up the win. James “Bubba” Silkwood had his best run on his birthday eve finishing second, James Burns came home third with Lane Matthews rebounding from an earlier spin on lap one to finish fourth and Andrew Thomas with his best run to date finishing fifth.
Pure Stock points leader Rieli Yonts picked up his ninth feature win of the season Saturday night. Yonts led all 12 laps enroute to the victory. Travis Cavin ran up front all night finishing second, opening night feature winner Jeremy Purdy came home third, Ava Dixon had another impressive run finishing fourth as she seems to be getting better as the season winds down and Jimmy Smith was fifth.
The Show Me Vintage Racing series made their final visit of the season Saturday night with Jim Thorne picking up his first career win. Thorne led from the drop of the green and survive relentless pressure from a few other cars. Damon Clevenger started dead last and came home second. Bob Werkmeister finished third, Larry Waters in his Buford T. Justice police car came home fourth and Jeremy Turner was fifth.
Midwest Limited Late Model points points Kerry Davis seemed to have the feature well in hand until Tommy Cordray started gaining ground toward the middle of the feature. Going into turn four the front end of Davis’s hotrod slid enough up the track for Cordray to shoot to the point. Cordray motored to his third feature win of the season narrowing this 15-point deficit to only 10 points. Davis held on for second with Shayne Bailey, Brad Dibben and Houston Johnson completing the top 5.
Brandon Toftee was heading back to Otho, Iowa on his way back from the USRA Nationals and made the wise decision to stop by I-35 Speedway Saturday night as he would pick up the win. Patrick Royalty made a nice move as he split a couple of cars halfway through the feature to finish second, Cole Moore continues to impress since moving to the B-Mod ranks with a third place finish, Dakota Girard was fourth with Krew Walburn fifth.
Beau Davis made the 4 and a half hour trip from Cheney, Kansas a successful one as he picked up the win in the USRA Stock Cars. Davis was followed across the line by Gene Stigall, Nathan Williams, Tommy Ground and Austin Ramey.
Lee Hibner led the USRA Modified feature early before surrendering and lead to Gunner Martin a few laps in. Martin would start to pull away before slipping up allowing Hibner to catch up and regain the lead. Hibner would start to pull away picking up his second feature win of the season as Martin would have to pull off with a mechanical failure. Jace Gay would rebound from an earlier caution to finish second, Lewis Jackson would finish third, Perry Milbourn Jr would pull the car out that he ran almost 10 seasons ago to finish fourth with Kyle Covert finishing fifth.
Another newcomer would make his first trip to I-35 Speedway a victorious one as Kolby Sabin used a last lap pass on Brett Holman to pick up the $350 win in the Sport Compacts. Holman, a two-time feature winner would finish second, Eric Schmidt would finish third, Chris Vannausdle was fourth and Tony Bell fifth.
With only 3 weeks left to catch all the action at I-35 Speedway we invite you to join us next week as it will be Larry McFee trucking “Be aware cancer rally” night. Tickets are now on sale for the November 6th season ending awards banquet.
