Rock Scores First Ever Feature Win, at CJ Speedway
Columbus Junction, Iowa: Friday night June 3rd provided he best weather of the 2022 racing season as a beautiful night greeted the race fans for an exciting night of action at the CJ Speedway on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction, Iowa.
The headliner of the nights racing action was the Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA Sportmod feature. It is always special to witness a first time winner, in his third year of racing CJ regular Trey Rock broke through and scored his first ever feature win in the very tough Sportmod class. Rock advanced from a fourth row start and took the lead near the midway point of the 15 lap feature and went on to hold off several very strong challenges from Shaun Slaughter. A couple late race cautions brought the field to Rock’s rear bumper but he was up to the challenges in scoring the win just ahead of Slaughter and Colton Livezey.
Jarrett Brown scored his third win of the season at the CJ Speedway in the Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modified division. Brown came to the front from a third row start to claim the win ahead of Maguire Dejong and Kurt Kile.
The Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars provided their usual wheel to wheel action in their 16 lap feature. When the checkers flew it was Corey Strothman making his way to victory lane after fighting off the late race challenges of Kirk Kinsley. Dustin Vis crossed the finish line in third.
The CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Stores IMCA Hobby Stock feature proved to be a wild event with several drivers taking their turn at the lead. Jon Irwin was out front when it mattered taking the checkers ahead of a strong running Billy Stanford. Randy LaMar crossed under the checkers in third.
The Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compacts feature proved to be a very emotional race as Cody Staley was able to score the win in his Uncle, Jason Staley’s car. Jason is currently in the fight for his life with a very serious medical condition. The 27Z car was built in the off season for Jason and he drove the car to the feature win on opening night, Cody has been racing the car since and the win on Friday night was very emotional for the Staley family.
