Late Models Provide Another Nail Biter Before Rains Halt Races At Maquoketa Speedway

| June 26, 2023

Maquoketa, Iowa (June 24, 2023) – Amhof Trucking of Eldridge hosted the racing action on Saturday night at the Maquoketa Speedway ¼ mile dirt track on the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Maquoketa. The racing took place under the threat of an approaching storm so the action was moved along as quickly as possible.

The Kinion Auto Sales IMCA Late Models once again provided the fans with a thrilling finish. As the winds began to whip around the Fairgrouns the Late Models were battling for position all the way through the 16 car field. Race leader Dalton Simonsen took the white flag with what appeared to be a good enough lead that would allow him to score the win. Bryce Garnhart had different ideas as he took his number three to the inside of Simonsen as the two raced down the back chute setting up a charge to the finish off of turn four which would net a feature win for Garnhart by less than two feet. Following Simonsen across the finish line were CJ Horn and early leader Scott Olson, who took fourth.

Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmods saw a strong field of drivers take the green for their 15 lap A feature on Saturday night. Ben Chapman drove his 1JR to another win after working to the front from his sixth position start. Chapman took over the top spot from early race leader Kevin Rasdon on lap number five and went on to record the win ahead of Rayce Mullen and Scott Williams.

The QCJeeps.com IMCA Stock Cars provided plenty of Fireworks with the lead changing several times and the leaders near the midway point of the race both being DQ’d for questionable driving and extra contact during a yellow flag situation. On the restart Tanner (the Kid) Allen took control and went on to score his first Maquoketa Speedway win in a Stock Car. Allen drove a flawless race in taking the win ahead of Jerry Miles and Chase Zaruba.

The 4’s once again dominated the Ueland Auto IMCA Hobby Stock feature with the top four positions going to drivers who all race the number 4. At the checkers it was Daniel Wauters picking up another win in the 4K. Wauters drove the high line to perfection in scoring the win ahead of Jordan Miles in the 4, Randy LaMar in the 4R and Jared Miles in the 4J.

The Hawkeye Auto Sport Compacts provided plenty of three and 4 wide racing in their 12 lap main event. Cyle Hawkins advanced from the 9th starting position to take the win ahead of 7th starting Jacob Welter and Drew Wise rounded out the top three.

The skies opened up and put an end to the race program before the Kunes Nissan IMCA Modifieds were able to race their feature. Next Saturday the 1st of July will feature a full program of racing plus the makeup feature for the IMCA Modifieds, meaning the Modifieds will run double features. Hot laps will be slated to get underway at 7 pm with racing to follow at the Maquoketa Speedway.
