Columbus Junction, Iowa (August 4, 2023) – The CJ Speedway roared back to life with an action packed night of racing on a perfectly prepared racing surface thanks to the efforts of the CJ Speedway promoter Larry Richardson. Unfortunately the Louisa County Fair Races fell victim to the excessive heat on Thursday, July 27th. The Fair race known as the “Battle on the Levee” will be run on Saturday September 23rd. Plans are in the works to make that event a very special event with details coming in the next week. Next Friday, August 11th will be the Midwest Frame & Axle Season Championships marking the final Friday racing event of the season at the CJ Speedway.

The Stewart & Sons Fuels IMCA Modified have provided great racing all season and the man to beat in the Modified has been Jarrett Brown. The Performer Chassis owned by Bill Fail yer comes to the track dialed in every Friday night. Brown took the green for the main event in the ninth starting position and was battling for second before one lap was completed. Brown shot by Bolton Osborn on lap three and went on to record a convincing win in the feature. Brandon Banks advanced from the eighth starting spot to take second but finished well behind Brown. Dakota Simmons had a fine run in taking third.

The Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars saw a strong field of 19 drivers take the green for their main event that would see several different drivers take their turn at the front. Austin O’Donnell, who is completing his first full season in the Stock Car class led for several laps and actually battled several laps with his Dad, Kenny, as the lead pack swelled to five drivers racing for the lead. Jason See was able to emerge out of the pack of cars and take the lead with Corey Strothman hot on his tail. See would race on to the win with Strothman second ahead of Kirk Kinsley.

The Huston Brothers IMCA Sportmods took the green for their main event with Kyle Boyd leading from his outside front row start. Dylan VanWyk took over on lap two and would lead the final 14 laps in scoring an impressive win. VanWyk has been very strong at the CJ Speedway all season and Friday nights win was another impressive win. Colton Livezey advanced six spots to take the checkers in second ahead of Justin Schroeder, who enjoyed a great run in the very tough CJ Speedway Sportmod class.

The CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Stores IMCA Hobby Stocks have provided plenty of action every week and Friday night was certainly no exception. Door to door racing with a little paint trading has become the norm in the tough Hobby Stock Class. Luke Phillips started well back in the field, but getting to the front has not been a problem for the Wapello driver. Phillips got to the front early and held off the youngster, Tucker Richardson, late in the main to score the win on his 30th Birthday. Richardson in his rookie season in the Hobby Stock Class has had a great year at the CJ Speedway. Randy LaMar rounded out the top three on Friday night.

The IMCA Sport Compacts sponsored by Midwest Rod & Restoration put on a whale of a race with a lead pack of four and sometimes five drivers battling for the point position. It wasn’t until the second half of the main event before Alex Hayes was able to break out of the pack to secure the top spot. Hayes was recorded as the leader the last four laps in taking the win ahead of Darin Smith and Kolby Sabin.

The Midwest Frame & Axle Season Championships will bring the Friday night racing season to an end at the CJ Speedway on Friday, August 11th with hot laps taking the green at 7 pm.
