Silaggi Gets First Career Win On Hall Of Fame Night At Maquoketa Speedway

MAQUOKETA, IOWA (September 2, 2023) – The Maquoketa Speedway held a special night of racing on Saturday, September, 2nd as the Maquoketa Speedway Hall of Fame saw five new members inducted into the prestigious group. Inducted on Saturday night were long time flagman Brit Montgomery, past racers and current wrecker operators, Steve Flagel and Gary Anderson, racer and creator of the Night of Destruction, Bob (Junky) Garien and Rich Current, long time car owner and supporter of all things associated with the Maquoketa Speedway.

6 classes of race cars were featured on Saturday night with the fans witnessing a swiftly run program which saw the final checkered of the night wave at 9 pm. The Amhof Sportmod class took the green with the 2023 Maquoketa Speedway Track Champion, Bob Silaggi pacing the field. Silaggi led early until 8th starting Jarrett Franzen pulled along side of Silaggi setting up a battle for the top spot, following a couple of slide jobs and some paint trading up front the 33 of Franzen was forced to retire to the infield. The lead pack included the elder Silaggi and his son Nathan Silaggi, the 47 of Corey Kuntzelman, the 41 of Ian Hurst and the 24 of Cole Stichter. As the pack raced down the back chute coming to the checkers the running order changed dramatically as Nathan Silaggi darted to the inside and took the top spot and went on to record his first ever feature win taking the checkers ahead of Kuntzelman, Hurst and the Nathans Dad, Bob Silaggi. The win was Nathan Silaggi’s first ever win in his very young racing career.

Jeff (Bone ) Larson scored another Kunes Nissan Modified feature win on Saturday night. The 2023 Maquoketa Speedway Track Champion worked to the front from his 4th row start and took over the top spot as the race neared midway. Larson raced on to the checkers ahead of Jeremy Gustaf and Jarrett Brown.

Jacob Ellithorpe pulled into victory lane for the 11th time this season at his home track. Ellithorpe scored the QCJeeps.com Stock Car main event win ahead of Chase Zaruba and Lee Kinsella.

The Maquoketa Speedway hosted the Quad Cities Outlaw Stock cars for the first time in 2023. The visitors put on a great race and all the drivers really enjoyed racing at the Maquoketa Speedway. When the checkered flag flew it was Zach (Zuby) Zuberbier making his way into victory lane. Zuby took the checkers ahead of Jeff Struck and Tony VonDresky.

The Ueland Auto Hobby Stock main event saw young Jordan Miles score his second win of the season at the Maquoketa Speedway. Miles drove a perfect race in taking the win ahead of Michael Swenson and Matt Bennett.

The Hawkeye Auto Sport Compacts main event win went to Cyle Hawkins. A fourth row start for Hawkins proved to be not much of a problem as he quickly go to the front and went on to score the win ahead of Josh Chambers and Rob Harding.

Fans of the Maquoketa Speedway are encouraged to watch all the media outlets for an announcement coming soon regarding events that are expected to be added yet in 2023.
