Harlan, Iowa (May 18, 2024) – Another fun and beautiful night was on tap for fans and competitors, Saturday night at SCS. The track was in great shape. Kudos to the track prep guys who provided yet another fine racing surface. The program ran smoothly, and we ran all classes through and was finished up at 9:30 PM.

Things got underway in the KNOD IMCA Hobby Stock class. As the green flag dropped. Brian Buboltz took the early lead. But last weeks winner Skyler Pruitt soon made his way to the front. Although challenged by Jason Goans Pruitt went on for the win followed by Goans, Heath Anderson and Willy Ransom.

Next up was the Atlantic Bottling Coca-Cola IMCA Sport Compacts. And Shannon Mahlberg who had rolled last week came back looking great as he shot to the lead from the drop of the green. Mahlberg went on for a convincing win over a charging Anthony Clark, John Logan and Levi Volkert.

Another fine field of Keast Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mods was next. In a very entertaining race Jake Sachau fought his way to the front in a great race with Matt Smith, Chase Monson, Corey Madden and Cody Olson. Sachau who started in the 9th position got ahead and was being chased hard by Cody Olson who finished 2nd Corey Madden 3rd and Monson rounded out the top four.

Then the class too tough to tame took to the track. The Murphy Equipment and Tractor IMCA Stock Cars action was second to none. Tim Podraza took the early lead but was soon overtaken. Young Braden Richards found himself in a battle as he took the lead and was challenged furiously by Mike Albertsen (Wahoo). Richards went on to win in his first ever victory in the IMCA stock car class. Albertsen took 2nd Tom Nelson 3rd and Mike Vondrak 4th as he held of defending Track Champion Mike Nichols. Congratulations to Braden Richards on his first win I am sure of more to come.

The last event of the evening was the Pitts Chiropractic IMCA Modifieds. Craig Reetz of Dunlap picked up the win in a classic battle of a couple of guys who have raced together for years. Jeff Stephens was challenging Reetz lap after lap. However, Stephens faded as he tried to pass Reetz. Jace Witt from Hamilton Mo. Finished in 2nd place Sean Barragan in 3rd and rookie in the Modified class Carson Reinig in 4th.

Next week the Sorensen Equipment IMCA Late Models return to action at SCS. They will be along with Hobby Stocks Stock Cars Sport Mods and Compacts. Don’t miss the action at the Shelby County Speedway. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook “Shelby County Speedway Harlan Iowa” and our website Racescs.com.
