Aikey aims to continue Deery success at Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa (Aug. 9) – Jeff Aikey looks to continue his Deery Brothers Summer Series success at Des Moines, when the IMCA Late Model tour headlines the traditional Iowa State Fair show on Monday, Aug. 13.
The six-time series champion owns five of his tour career-leading 56 feature wins at the State Fairgrounds Speedway. Aikey has been runner-up in four shows and in the top five another four nights in 18 career Deery Des Moines outings.
Monday’s feature pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start. Mike Murphy Jr. of Colona, Ill., is second in the standings, nine points off the pace. Andy Eckrich of Oxford, two-time defending champion Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., and Jay Johnson of West Burlington complete the top five.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $25.
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Karl Chevrolet dirt trucks are also on the fair race program.

Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown extends his perfect series attendance mark to 399 consecutive events on Monday. He’s a three-time Deery winner at Des Moines, in 1995, 2000 and 2007.
The 400th event in Deery Series history is Saturday, Sept. 1 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington. That evening’s Pepsi USA Nationals feature pays $5,000 to win.
The final four events of the 26th annual tour are Sept. 3 at Boone Speedway, on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals; Sept. 14 and 15 during the Yankee Dirt Track Classic at Farley Speedway; and Sept. 22 at Davenport Speedway.
