Larry Phillips Memorial Saturday at Springfield Raceway
SPRINGFIELD, MO (Sept 11, 2012) – The fourth and final visit by the Lucas Oil MLRA to Springfield Raceway, this season, will be big. This Saturday is the running of the annual Larry Phillips Memorial. This race honors arguably the greatest short track racer to ever live, and the only five time NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Champion. With only Lakeside Speedway on the schedule following this weekend, it will be one of the last chances for fans to see the Lucas Oil MLRA in 2012. John Anderson will lead the Lucas Oil MLRA contingent into action. Anderson has locked up the Lucas Oil MLRA Championship and is also the defending race winner.
2012 Rookie of the Year Mark Dotson is currently second in the standings. He will be looking to grow his slim three point lead over Jesse Stovall, who won the last Super Late Model race at Springfield Raceway. Terry Phillips, who has won this race three times, currently sits fourth. Des Moines, IA Kevin Sather rounds out the top five.
Including the unsanctioned Turkey Classic, there have been four different winners in four Late Model races held at the racy “Quick Quarter” this season. Saturday’s tilt will also be sanctioned by the MARS Series. Seven different drivers have scored Larry Phillips Memorial wins. Aside from Phillips, only Bill Frye can lay claim to more than one victory. John Anderson, Jeremy Payne, Brian Shirley, Wendell Wallace and Tim Swearengin have all won the event once.
Home Pro in Joplin, MO is the title sponsor for the race. Visit their website to see if they can be of service to you.
