Jackson, Solberg, And Russell Capture Fall Brawl Titles
LEBANON, MO (October 20, 2012) – The LebanonMidway Speedway concluded the 2012 racing season Saturday night with the final 3 main event features for the B Modifieds, Factory Stocks and A Modifieds as near perfect Fall Weather Skies and Temps welcomed the racers.
The B Modified feature picked-up where it left off with 7 laps complete and Lebanon’s Kris Jackson as the leader. As the field took the restart, while Bill Schaar powered into the runner-up spot with Scott Crigler following. Jackson began to pull away from the pack as Crigler overtook Schaar for second place on lap 10 as 2 time Midway track champion michael Stake was charging from deep in the pack and Brian Webster was moving up the leader board also. On lap 11, both Webster and Stake moved around Schaar and began to close on Crigler while Jackson was pulling away. The quick pace slowed on lap 13 as Matt Miller spun bunching the field together. With Kris Jackson in front, Webster had closed-up the gap and was putting on pressure as Crigler and Stake diced for third place. On lap 17, Jackson saw his lead down to 3 car lengths, but gathered it back in charge and took home the $1,000 to win feature with Webster, Crigler, Stake and Schaarm completing the top 5.
The $1,000 to win Factory Stock feature had drivers realy pushing hard as it took two restarts to get things going. Pole setter Darren Crisler grabbed the opening lead with Ben Solberg following along with Jason Russell and Donnie Miller. On lap 2, Solberg took the lead only to give it back to Crisler on lap 3. A lap 4 caution slowed the pace as front runner Brian Schutt ducked into the pits along with track champion Tim Petty. Both drivers returned to action. Crisler again in command with Solberg and Russell back and forth while Miller, Ted Welschmeyer and Dale Berry were battling. On lap 11, the yellow waved as Crisler slowed in turn 4 and several cars got together in turn 1. This placed solberg in the top spot as Miller, Russell, Berry and Derrick Henson completed the top 5 run down. On lap 13 the caution waved with several front runners being involved in turn 4 including Miller, Henson,former Midway Champion Dylan Keepper,Welschmeyer, early leader Crisler, along with Schutt and Petty. When action went green again, Solberg has Russell inching down low as Dale Berry and Ray Smith were closing in. Berry’s great forward run ended on lap 14 as he spun in turn 3 while Smith after starting 16th had moved into third place. Smith’s hard charge ended on lap 17 with problems and he headed in the pits. With Solberg leading and Russell continuing to move down low, the battle for third was wild as several drivers were moving back and forth. Solberg would find Miller pulling closer on lap 19 as the white flag flew. Coming to the finish, Miller looped it in turn 4 trying to move around the leader Solberg and spun collecting Schutt, Welschmeyer, and Petty as Solberg took the victory. Following the winner to the stripe were Russell, Crisler, 20th starting Mike Bitner and Berry.
The A Modified feature had Rustin Miller and Jamie Ragland on the front row after pole setter Tyler Brown broke a motor in practice and drove Brian Myers car in the feature having to go to the rear. Miller grabed the opening spot over Ragland while Jason Russell loomed behind the duo. Russell shot to the inside of leader Miller on lap 3 as the duo went door to door as Ragland fell back while veteran Rex Merritt challanged. After a great wheel to wheel race for 4 laps, Russell moved ahead of Miller and began to pull away. This left the real race for third place between Ragland and Merritt as Merritt took the spot on lap 9. With Russell checking out and Miller a solid runner-up, all eyes watched Ragland and Merritt got back and forth. It wasn’t until the final lap that Ragland got the spot away from Merritt. Russell taking the $500 to win event was followed by Miller, Ragland, Merritt, and Tyler Brown.
Sam Petty took the special event which featured Midwest Modifieds against full bodied cars while Keith Cheever took home the second place honors.
