Dale McDowell Registers First Win of 2013; Bulls Gap Next
Welcome, North Carolina (March 14, 2013) – Dale McDowell powered his #17m Team Dillon Racing/Mastersbilt/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first win of the 2013 campaign on Friday night with a $4,000 triumph at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia).
It was a doubleheader weekend for Team Dillon Racing and Dale McDowell as they competed in Georgia and Tennessee. On Friday night the action opened with a $4,000-to-win, unsanctioned event at Boyds Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia). Thirty-six Super Late Models entered the program at the 1/4 mile oval, and via time trials Dale locked into the second starting spot alongside, Jonathan Davenport. As the race went green it was Davenport, who took over the lead, and would maintain the top spot until lap 20, when McDowell jumped to the front of the pack. Once out front Dale never looked back on his way to his first win of the 2013 season! He was followed across the line by Davenport, Randy Weaver, Billy Ogle Jr., and Steve Casebolt.
“It took us a while to get going,” said McDowell, who rode behind the high-running Davenport early in the race before taking the lead with a low-side pass on lap 20. “Jonathan was awful good around the top side there, so I kinda found a groove in the bottom and got by him.”

Saturday evening saw the action shifting to Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) for the annual running of the Shamrock 50, which was sanctioned by the Southern All Stars (SAS) Super Late Model tour. Thirty-nine entries were in the pits, and after winning the second heat race, he earned the second starting spot alongside Randy Weaver for the feature. McDowell assumed control of the lead as the race went green, and held the top spot for the first fourteen laps before Billy Ogle Jr. took control. McDowell and Ogle Jr. battle for the lead for the next handful of laps before McDowell slipped a few spots. At the checkered flag he was credited with a fourth place finish behind race winner, Randy Weaver, Mike Marlar, and Billy Ogle Jr. Full results are available at www.SASDirt.com.
McDowell will pursue his second win of the season this weekend, March 15th-16th, when he travels to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) for the opening rounds of the brand-new, Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals. On Friday night a $4,000-to-win feature will be held, while Saturday’s program will be headlined by a $10,000-to-win finale. For more information, please visit www.VolunteerSpeedway.com .
