Rodney Sanders Wins $4k at RPM Speedway for Eighth Win of 2013

| March 20, 2013

Happy, Texas (March 19, 2013) – Rodney Sanders added to his win tally over the weekend in his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified by scoring a $4,000 triumph at RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas) on Friday night, and he backed it up with a pair of runner-up finishes.

Rodney Sanders and the Swan Energy Racing Team took part in an ultra-busy weekend of racing action with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) as a trio of events were contested in Texas and Louisiana.

The action opened on a beautiful Friday night at RPM Speedway (Crandall, Texas) as 51 entries filled the pit area for the $4,000-to-win event.  Sanders started his night by claiming the win in the second heat race from the pole position to lock into the redraw for the 40 lap feature.  In the redraw he was the recipient of the pole position for the feature with Stormy Scott joining him on the front row.  As the race went green Sanders bolted to the lead, and while he led every lap of the feature the win would be far from easy as a host of talented drivers took shots at the leader.  Sanders fended off all advances, and when the checkered flag dropped he had claimed his eighth win of the 2013 campaign with Jason Hughes, Tyler Townsend, Kevin Sustaire, and Ryan Gustin rounding out the top five.

Sanders carried his momentum to the 1/4 mile confines of Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) on Saturday night for a $2,000 to win, USMTS program.  Once again fifty-one entries filed into the pit area, and a win in the fourth heat transferred Sanders to the redraw, where he received the second starting spot alongside the pole-sitter, Kelly Shryock, for the 50 lap feature.  Sanders jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag and appeared to be on his way to another win until Chris Henigan took over command at the front of the pack on lap 27.  Henigan would go on to lead the remainder of the feature as Sanders was forced to settle for a second place finish. Ryan Gustin, Stormy Scott, and Kelly Shryock rounded out the top five at the checkered flag.

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening with another $2,000-to-win event, which was held at Boothill Speedway (Greenwood, Louisiana).  Forty entries were on hand to try and claim the top prize, and it proved to be another night with another heat race win and another front row starting spot as he drew the second starting spot alongside pole sitter, Stormy Scott.  Scott won the drag race to turn one on the first lap as Sanders settled into the second spot.  It wouldn’t be long before Sanders received strong advances from Bobby Malchus for the runner-up spot, but ultimately Sanders raced back to second, and that’s where he finished behind race winner, Stormy Scott.  Jason Hughes, Jason Ingalls, and Zack VanderBeek rounded out the top five in the final standings.

The team had planned to enter the $15,000-to-win, King of America III this weekend at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas), but a poor forecast has forced the postponement of the event.  As a result, Rodney will not be racing anywhere.  Stay tuned to www.RodneySandersRacing.net for the latest schedule and team news.
