WHEATLAND, MO (March 27, 2013) – With the running of the Annual Spring Meltdown at I-80 Speedway just over a week away, plans are now in place for a practice night. The session will be held on Thursday evening April 4th and is open for anyone wanting to run the Lucas Oil MLRA race the following two evenings. Admission for drivers is $20, and crew members will be charged $10. The practice will run from 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM. “I’m glad I-80 wanted to hold a practice the night before,” commented Series Director Dan Robinson. “This will be the first race for a lot of our competitors, and I-80 is a pretty fast and demanding track. It will be good to let them fine tune their equipment and get comfortable behind the wheel.”

The Spring Meltdown this year has been expanded to two complete shows. Friday’s race will pay $2,000 to win and Saturday’s show will be worth $3,000 to the winner. One of the contenders this weekend certainly likes the new structure for the race. “It excites me to run two individual shows at the same track,” said 2012 I-80 Speedway Champion Kyle Berck. “Most of us have outside jobs and families, so this is certainly the most ideal scenario. On another level, it really helps to do this early in the year so everyone can get more acclimated to their car. You can run and adjust, and then really evaluate what worked and what didn’t, by having two shows at the same place.”

Berck has dug deeper into the chassis side of his program over the last couple of years and designed and built his own chassis in partnership with Minford, OH based Swartz Race Cars. “We’re going to start the year with our proven car from last year,” said Berck. “It was so good, and I have a book full of information on it. We don’t need to go take on the level of competition at the Spring Meltdown with something we’re not familiar with. It’s my home track and favorite to boot. I can’t wait. This will be a terrific show. I hope the fans come out and pack the grandstands next weekend.”
