WINSTON, MO (April 13, 2013) – Starting out the feature action for week two of the 2013 racing season witnessed Bud Wilson’s #75 Grand National start out on the pole and never look back, leading every on his way to an impressive victory.  Travis Walker driving the #71 challenged late, yet came up just a little short finishing a solid second place.  First week winner #9 Don Marr placed third, with #98 Austin Johnson fourth and fourteen year old #97 Houston Johnson rounding out the top five.

Coming off what was a caution filled week one the IMCA Stock Car class was back in top running form.  With one of the best features of the evening, Brad Whitney driving the #x9 jumped out to the early lead and never lifted taking the checkered flag for his first win of the season.  The racing action behind Whitney was fast and furious with no one gaining a clear advantage until the final flag was thrown.  When the dust settled #77 Dean Wray drove home second, Todd Fisher #44 continued his early season success with a solid third place finish.  Coming from a deep starting position #M36 of Clay Mercer battled his way to a fourth place showing, with #3 “Smokin” Joe Zadina driving home in fifth.

Continuing the hot racing action on the track, the IMCA Sport Mods did not disappoint.  Wes Bestgen #15b jumped out to the early lead but was forced to retire early due to mechanical issues.  The racing action continued as several drivers contended for the top spot, with #7 Doug Keller taking the victory.  After an untimely incident early on, #23jr Nick Roberts drove his way from the rear of the field to an impressive second place finish.  Blain Petersen #68+1 raced his was to third, with #37 Anthony Asher a very close fourth.  Last week’s feature winner #57 Randy Ainsworth continued his attempt at repeating as track champion with a consistent fifth place finish.

Next on the on the 3/8 mile was the IMCA Hobby Stock’s with #77c Andy Coffman charging to the front and battling all challengers to pick up his first feature win of 2013.  Always fast #17f Lee Farmer challenged late yet had to settle in to the second position.  Third place was week one feature winner #3 Kenny Champ, Jamie Songer driving #96r finished fourth, and pole sitter #34 Mich Ross fifth.

As a specialty of the evening the vintage racers entered I-35 and continued the night’s fast racing atmosphere.  Father and two sons put on a spectacular show by dominating the class and taking the top three spots.  When the checkered flag flew #5 Keith Simmons finished first with brother Zack Simmons #13 second and father Jack Simmons in the #j2 third.

The evening’s features concluded with the IMCA Modifieds, staying true to form the racing action did not disappoint.  Pole sitter #2h John Hanson jumped out to an early lead yet was challenged early and lost the lead to track regular #26s Steven Glenn.  With fending off all contenders Glenn suffered a broken axel ending his chances at victory.  This set the scene for three wide racing between P.J. Conger, Jeff James, and Randy Smith.  Throw a blanket over the top three with the lead changing each lap until #71j Jeff James was able to pull away to victory.  Week one winner P.J. “The King” Conger raced his way to a solid second and battling back to third was #2h John Hanson.  Fourth belonged to #26 Randy Smith with #10 Johnny McGinnis placed fifth.

We want to thank all of our great fans at I-35 Speedway for braving the cold and welcome everyone back next week for “Dirt Trackin at its best”
