Foster and Ulin Open There Points Season With Wins at the Lee County Speedway

Donnellson, IA (Friday, April 26, 2013) – After two straight weeks of rain outs the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA was able to get back into racing action on Farmington Tax and Accounting and Donnellson Tire Night. The Budweiser IMCA Modifieds and Coor’s Light IMCA Hobby Stocks opened there 2013 points seasons, with Josh Foster (Modifieds) and Nick Ulin (Hobby Stocks) picking up the wins. Also picking up wins on the night was Jason Cook (Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars), Brett Lowry (Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods), and Brandon Lambert (Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts).

The first feature up on the night was the 12 lap Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts, with Brandon Lambert and Richard Bank leading the field to the green. Lambert would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Austen Becerra and Bank. The action was slowed on lap 2 when Matt Moore got into Bank and caused him to roll in turn 4 to bring out the red. The wreck also collected the cars of Josh Barnes and Skipp Dunker. On the restart Lambert jumped back out into the lead, with Becerra and Michael Grossman, who started 7th, battling for 2nd. Grossman would slip past Lambert on lap 5 to take over the top spot, only to lose it to Becerra on lap 6. But Lambert wouldn’t go down easy, as he battled back on lap 7 to grab the lead back. Becerra then came back to grab the lead away on lap 8 and looked to be heading for a win, when he started to slow on lap 11. Lambert would inherit the lead back and then held on over the final lap to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Brandon Reu came from 5th to finish in 2nd, Dunker recovered from his lap 2 involvement in the wreck to come back to 3rd, Kimberly Abbott was 4th, with Becerra holding on to finish in 5th.

Up next was the 14 lap Coor’s Light IMCA Hobby Stock feature, with Nick Ulin and Ricky Miller Jr. drawing the front row for the event. But it was fourth place starter Dustin Griffiths who shot out into the lead on lap 1. Griffiths then held the top spot until lap 4, when Ulin slipped under him to take over the lead. Griffiths wouldn’t give up though, as he came back on the top of the speedway to grab the lead back on lap 5. Griffiths run up front came to a end on lap 6, as he pulled into the infield with a right rear flat. Ulin inherited the lead and then held off Dale Porter, who came from 6th, to claim his first win of the season at the track. Porter was 2nd, Jason See was 3rd, Miller Jr. was 4th, with Andrew Hustead rounding out the top 5.

Ryan Fullenkamp and Bradley Holtmeyer led the field to green in the 16 lap Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMod feature, with Fullenkamp grabbing the lead on lap 1 over Brett Lowry, who started 6th. The action up front was slowed for the first time on lap 2, as Holtmeyer and Chris Larson tangled in turn 2 while battling for 4th to bring out the yellow. On the restart Fullenkamp jumped back out front, with Lowry working to hold back Bobby Anders, who started 7th, in the battle for 2nd. Lowry would slip under Fullenkamp on lap 4 to take over the top spot, leaving Fullenkamp to battle Anders for 2nd. Anders was able to over take Fullenkamp for second on lap 6 and then went to work on Lowry for the lead. Lowry and Anders then started to pull away from the battle for third, between Fullenkamp and Tony Dunker, who started 11th. Lowry would slid up the track coming off turn 2 on lap 13, which allowed Anders to slip under him to take over the lead. But a caution would wave before the lap was scored complete, giving the lead back to Lowry. Fullenkamp, who was running 3rd, spun in turn 2 on lap 12 to bring out the yellow. Lowry once again moved out front on the restart, with Dunker and Anders battling side-by-side for 2nd. Lowry was able to hold on over the final 4 laps to claim his first win of the season at the track. Dunker won the battle for 2nd, Anders was 3rd, Dustin Crear came from 10th to finish in 4th, with Phillip Cossel coming home in 5th.

Up next was the Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Car 16 lap feature was up next, with Jeremy Pundt and Tim Anders leading the field for the start. Pundt would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Abe Huls and Jason Cook. Pundt then held off Huls until lap 3 when Huls slipped past for the top spot. Cook would clear Pundt for 2nd on lap 4 and then went to work on Huls for the lead. Huls, who was working the top of the track, and Cook, who was on the bottom, ran laps 5 thru 10 side-by-side, with Huls edging out Cook at the line each lap for the lead. Cook was finally able to clear Huls on lap 11 to take over the top spot and then held off Huls over the final 5 laps to claim his second win of the season at the track. John Oliver Jr. came from 5th to finish in 3rd, Lane Kauffman started 7th and finished 4th, with Jim Lynch rounding out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the 18 lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Josh Foster and Bill Roberts Jr. leading the field to the drop of the green. Foster moved out front on the drop of the green flag over Roberts Jr. and Tyler Cale, and then set sail. The only thing to slow Foster down was the first and only caution of the event, as Brandon Rothzen got into the turn 3 guardrail to bring out the yellow on lap 7. On the restart Foster jumped back out front, leaving Roberts Jr., Cale and Scott Hogan, who started 12th, battling for 2nd. Hogan would over take Roberts Jr. for second on lap 9 and then tried to reel in Foster, who had already built up a straight away lead. But Foster was able to maintain the lead to claim his first win of the season. Hogan settled for 2nd, Cayden Carter was 3rd, Roberts Jr. was 4th, with Cale rounding out the top 5.

Coming up next week at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA will be Midwest Performance and Coor’s Light Night at the races. The Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars, Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods, Coor’s Light IMCA Hobby Stocks and Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts will continue there battle for points.

Gates next week will open at 5:30 pm, hot laps at 7:00 pm, and racing at 7:30 pm. Grandstand admission will be adults $10, seniors $, students 7-17 $5, and kids 6 & under FREE! Pit passes will be $25, with ages 7-13 being $15, and ages 6 & under $10.
