WINSTON, MO (April 27, 2013) – Coming to the track first to kick off the nights features were the always exciting Grand Nationals.  Starting from the inside pole position was defending track champion Bud Wilson #75 jumping out to the early lead.  As the laps counted down without caution Wilson was never challenged and picked up his second feature win of the 2013 season for Mike Johnson Racing. Travis Walker #71 raced his way to place second, with fifteen year old “Sensation” Austin Johnson third.  Rounding out the field in fourth and fifth were Don Marrs #9 and Houston “Moose” Johnson #97.

Continuing in form the Midwest Lightning Sprints took to the 3/8 mile with a much improved car count from the week before.  Not wasting any time #b20 of Tom Brown drove out front in a caution free green to checkered race picking up his first feature win at I-35 in 2013.  Battling hard for second place was Mark Billings #51 and Tony Layne #71 with Billings second and Layne third respectably.  Fourth place Ken Billings #85 held off a hard charging Bobby Layne #01 who would finish fifth.

For the second week in a row, the IMCA Stock Cars would not see the yellow flag fly.  Starting from far back in the field Lance Borgman #76 raced his way past all competitors to pick up the feature victory.  An impressive year continued for “Big” Jeff Dixon #88 as he would battle his way to earn a strong second place spot with Kevin Anderson #417 fighting his way to third.  Spectators could throw a blanket over the next few positions as two time 2013 feature winner Brad Whitney #x9 finished fourth and Dean Wray #77 driving home fifth.

Spectacular racing continued with IMCA Sport Mods putting on a race to remember.  Nick “The Kid” Roberts #23jr found his way to McCarthy Auto Group victory lane for the second week in a row edging out defending track champion Randy Ainsworth #57 who would finish second.  With yet another impressive feature run “Mr. Highside” Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p placed third challenged late by #17x of Clint Baker who would wind up fourth.  Rounding out the top five of a superb sport mod finale was Wes Bestgen driving the #15b.

Staying true to fashion the IMCA Hobby Stocks would not disappoint with rookie of the year contender, sixteen year old, Kenny Champ #3 earning his second victory of the 2013 season.  Champ rallied from deep in the field to hold off all challengers on his way to the winners circle.  Jeremy Turner #55L engaged Mich Ross #34 and Lee Farmer #17f to finish second with Ross third and Farmer fourth.  Rounding out the top five was Tyson Overton in the #42t.

Completing “Dirt Trackin at its Best” were the fire breathing, high flying, IMCA Modifieds.  Starting fifth row outside, Darren Shaw #11 scraped and clawed his way through the pack to earn his first victory of the 2013 season at I-35 Speedway.  Second place saw the crafty veteran Buz Kaster #54 edge out Steven Glenn #26s who would drive away third.  Hard racing continued further back in the pack as P.J. Conger #19 placed fourth and Randy Smith #26 finished fifth.  Fans were treated to great doughnut action on the front stretch by winner Darren Shaw as he celebrated the feature victory.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our great fans for their continued support and would like to invite everyone next Saturday Night for Concert Night with Dammit Jim and Rednecks performing after the feature races.
