Justin Kay Dominates Davenport

DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 28, 2013) – Friday may have been Kid’s Night at the Davenport Speedway, but everyone was treated to an exciting night of racing action, with a lot of passes for the lead.
Justin Kay brought home his third Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature win of the season and his second in a row. Mike Guldenpfennig grabbed the lead from the pole and held it through lap three. LeRoy Brenner led for a handful of laps, before Joe Zrostlik led for a single lap.
After starting twelfth, Kay rocketed into the lead on lap eleven and left the field in the dust. Kay had such a lead, that when the next caution flag flew, he had already taken the white flag, and the race was over. Joe Zrostlik held on for second, with Todd Malmstrom third. Nate Bueseling finished fourth, with Matt Ryan coming from deep in the field to take fifth.
Doug Crampton won an exciting EMS IMCA Modified main. Crampton took the lead from Jason Bahrs on lap four. On lap eleven, Mitch Morris used a slide job on Crampton to take the lead. A couple laps later, the caution flag flew. Under caution, Morris had a tire go down and went to the pits. On the restart, Crampton went back in front and on to victory lane.
Bob Dominacki finished second after an early spin, followed by Tony VonDresky in third. Tim Arp shuffled his way to a fourth place finish, while Kelly Meyer came home fifth.
Jeremy Marquette chalked up win number five on the season in the Koehler Electric Street Stocks. Keith Jackson held the race lead for the first six laps, before Jeremy powered into the lead. Once in front, Marquette led the rest of the way to the checkers. Jeremy Gustaf ran second nearly the entire race and finished there. Jackson held on for third, with Chris Lawrence and Perry Gellerstedt completing the top five.
Brandon Dahl captured his second win of the season in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock division. Dahl had to wrestle the lead away from Eric Stogdell on lap 4, then fend off Aaron Hitt in the final laps to take the win. Zach Dahl finished third behind Hitt. Luke Benischek took fourth, with Eric Stogdell fifth.
Jarrett Franzen claimed his second feature win of the season in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods. Franzen went to the lead at the drop of the green and led flag to flag. Bryce Garnhart needed all fifteen laps, to catch Franzen, but didn’t have time to mount a challenge for the lead. Ricky Kay ran third, followed by Brandon Jewell and Andre LaPorte.
Friday, July 5th, the Davenport Speedway has the cure for your fireworks hangover, as the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models invade the quarter-mile oval.
