KNOXVILLE RACEWAY, Knoxville, IA, July 6, 2013 – Three races featured three faces in Victory Lane Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway on Town Crier Twin Features Night at Knoxville.  Justin Henderson and Mark Dobmeier won the main events in the 410 class, while Clint Garner won for the 19th time in his career in the 360 class.

Brian Brown shot out from the pole to lead the first 410 feature of the night.  With a lap in the books, contact from Dobmeier sent Austin McCarl into a spin that collected Tasker Phillips.  Both ended up upside down and done for the night.  Rager Phillips and Glen Saville were both also caught in the fray but restarted.

Brown led Henderson, Rico Abreu, Terry McCarl and Ian Madsen back to green flag racing.  While Abreu captured second, Kyle Larson moved into the top five from row six.  Henderson battled back for the runner-up spot, while McCarl moved into third with Larson trailing him.

RJ Johnson got into the wall with nine laps in the books setting up another restart.  Bronson Maeschen shot from sixth to fourth.  On lap twelve, Henderson got off the bottom of the raceway to shoot by Brown, who rode the cushion.  Henderson was making his first start in the BDS Motorsports #1 entry.

A lap later, Rob Kubli flipped hard in turn three.  He was taken to the hospital for a check-up.  The restart saw Henderson leading Brown, Larson, Maeschen and McCarl.  On lap fourteen, Brown shot around Henderson to lead again.  A sixth running Madsen had fuel pump issues and stopped on lap 15, bringing out the final caution and setting up a five-lap Dash.

Henderson sized Brown up for a lap, before taking the lead for good.  Brown trailed him, followed by Larson, Terry McCarl and hard-charger, Davey Heskin.  Dusty Zomer, Maeschen, Abreu, Lynton Jeffrey and Dobmeier rounded out the top ten.

“Brian Brown is never asleep at the wheel,” said Henderson in Victory Lane.  “He’s phenomenal here.  To be honest, I haven’t been here in a long time, and Bryan (Sundby) gave me a fantastic racecar.  I couldn’t screw it up.  I’m happy to be home.  I was fortunate to drive out in Ohio for Rick Ferkel and he taught me a lot.  We raced all over the place.  It’s nice to be around my family here.”

The second feature started with an invert of seventeen from the first.  AJ Moeller led lap one, before Dobmeier took command.  By lap five, Heskin had moved from row seven to fifth and the first twelve laps went non-stop before Zomer spun into the infield.

Dobmeier led Heskin, Larson (from 15th), Josh Schneiderman and Maeschen back to green.  Larson quickly shot to second before Madsen’s rough night continued when he stopped with thirteen laps down.

Heskin and Larson waged a good battle for the runner-up spot trading it a couple of times before Larson took it with five to go.  A lap later, he tried for the lead, but had something break, sending him upside down.  He was uninjured.

Dobmeier led Maeschen, Heskin, Abreu and Jeffrey back to green.  While Maeschen took a late stab at Dobmeier, Abreu shot into the top three on the restart with Brown behind him.  The two traded the spot behind Dobmeier and Maeschen, before Abreu took it on the last lap.  Brown and Heskin followed him.  Terry McCarl, Henderson, Jeffrey, Jason Solwold and Zomer completed the top ten.

The win was Dobmeier’s third here in three weeks, and the eleventh in his career here.  “I knew the bottom was there,” he said in Victory Lane of Maeschen’s late bid for the lead.  “It was better in three and four.  I just couldn’t give up the top.  I saw Maeschen on the last lap.  I tried to take his line away in three and seal the deal.  I couldn’t be prouder of this Lunstra Motorsports team.”

Garrett Dollansky set quick time for the night, while Larson, Brown and Schneiderman won the heats.  Jeffrey claimed the B main.

The 360 race was one of attrition.  A first lap incident set the tone, when Jamie Ball spun from the pole in front of the field, collecting Zach Blurton and Nate Van Haaften, who flipped hard.  He was uninjured.

Jon Agan shot out to the lead after inheriting the pole in the 18-lapper ahead of Clint Garner.  Garner utilized the cushion to pass Agan for the lead on lap three.  Six cautions and a fuel stop plagued the event.

Joe Beaver was second by the midway point, but came to a stop after packing his right rear with mud on lap 15.  Matt Moro made steady progress and ended up finishing second behind Garner.  Josh Higday was the hard-charger, and made a pass for third on the final lap.  Agan was fourth ahead of Ryan Roberts.  Beaver came back from the tail to finish sixth, ahead of Jamie Veal, Jarrod Schneiderman, Chris Martin and Tom Lenz.

“It was a good race,” said Garner in Victory Lane.  “It lasted a lot longer than I wanted it to.  Once you get in the lead, you want it to be over…then with three to go I was bummed out we came in for a fuel stop.  The track was great like I thought.  It was awesome.”

Van Haaften set quick time, while Martin, Roberts and Garner took heat races.

Next week, all three sprint car classes will be back in action on Hy-Vee Night during the Marion County Fair on Saturday, June 13!  For more information on events happening during the Marion County Fair, visit www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com!
