McCarthy Auto Group Exciting Night at the Races I-35

WINSTON, MO (July 20, 2013) – Starting the nights exciting racing action were the always fast and furious Grand Nationals.  The feature witnessed rookie driver Houston Johnson #97 back up his heat race victory by leading every lap but the last as Bud Wilson #75 would make the pass to pick up the feature win.  Houston would have to settle for second with older brother Austin Johnson #98 third.  Marty Powell #9p would suffer mechanical issues to finish fourth.

Back to the 3/8 mile of dirt were the Midwest Lightning Sprints, with Kevin Whitworth #49w finding his way to victory lane for the first time this season at I-35 Speedway.  Point leader Tom Brown #b20 battled a hard charging Ken Billings #85 to finish second with Billings placing third.  Tony Layne #71 would have another solid fourth place with Mark K. Billings #51 recovering from an early race mishap to round out the top five.  Heat race winners included feature winner Kevin Whitworth and Tom Brown.

As usual the most competitive and exciting class was the IMCA Stock Cars as Jake Cameron #86c would pick up victory number two on the 2013 racing season.  Battling for the second place of the evening saw Brad Whitney #x9, who placed second, hold off an always fast Kevin Anderson #417, who would finish third.  Dean Wray #77 continued his consistency as point leader with a solid fourth place finish, as Greg Keuhn #6x would finish fifth.  Heat Race winners were Brad Whitney and Jeff Dixon #88, who would lead early in the feature only to suffer mechanical problems.

Tackling I-35 Speedway next were the High Flying IMCA Sport Mods.  Tony Manley #3x starting from the outside of row one would take the early advantage and lead every lap but the one that counted most.  Point leader Randy Ainsworth #57 charged through the pack to make a last lap pass to pick up the feature win, moving Manley to second.  Third place battle was won by Anthony Asher #37 over Nick Roberts #23jr, who would place fourth.  Josh Steele #94j with yet another solid race would finish fifth.  Heat Race Winners were Tony Manley, Randy Ainsworth, and Caleb Dennis #11.

In a race to remember the IMCA Hobby Stock class would not disappoint anyone in attendance.  Mich Ross #34 and Kenny Champ #3 battled every lap side by side, door handle to door handle, and bumper to bumper; as rubbing is racing to the checkered with Ross claiming victory.  Champ would have to settle for second, as heat race winner Cody Doolittle #5 would finish third.  Josh Saunders #52 would duke it out with Josh Adkins #15, as Saunders would take the fourth spot and Adkins fifth.

A familiar face in the IMCA Modified victory lane was Cory Wray #69n with Blake Peeler #292 charging through the field to place second.  John Hanson #2h battled Jeff Marriott #56 lap after lap to place third, moving Marriott to fourth.  Returning to I-35 after a devastating crash the week before Steven Glenn #26s would round out the top five.  Heat Race Winners were John Hanson and Steven Glenn.

Intermission excitement witnessed Hula-Hoop action second to none as familiar faces rose to the top; competitors were narrowed to five then asked to use two hoops.  Even with the two Hula-Hoops at play contestants still managed to impress the crowd.  Special thanks to all the drivers for their give-away gifts and generosity.  We invite all of our loyal fans back next week for “egg relay action” as five of our best drivers have agreed to participate with our amazing fans.  We look forward to seeing each and every one again next week for an exciting night of racing at I-35 Speedway for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
