ACTION HEATING UP AS HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY ROLLS INTO WEEK THREE OF THE 2012 SEASON

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (May 16, 2012) – This Friday night, May 18 is round three of the 2012 racing season at Hawkeye Downs Spedway- Eastern Iowa’s premier racing facility  with action in all six divisions of the Papa Johns’ Cup/I-Wireless Championship Series.

A full night of heat and feature action is on tap with Performance Concepts Late Models, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Budweiser Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, Sunline Hornets, and Dublin City Pub Legend Cars taking to the track.

In addition, Friday night will see the second Anderson Automotive Trophy Dash. This week will see six Hornet drivers battling for six laps with an impressive piece of hardware to the winner.

Kids and  the i-Wireless Lil’ Racers Car Club also get into the act Friday night with Big Wheel Races on the front stretch for kids ages 7 and under.

Fans will want to check out the new concession menu items as new offerings join some old Hy-Vee and Papa Johns favorites  along with the addition of ice cold Pepsi Products.

Looking at the point races, Matt Petrzelka sits atop the Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stock division, seven markers ahead of Roland Bohnsack.

Kevin Korsmo leads the way in Dublin City Pub Legends for the second straight week holding the sdge over Dennis Diercks.

There’s a three-way logjam in the Sunline Hornets division as Kurt Bohnsack, John Ness, and Shane Hanson are all tied for the lead. Derek Parrott sits just six points behind the trio at the top.

A familiar name is in command of the Mountain Dew Sportsmen as Dave McCalla has a four point cushion over last week’s winner, Craig Stepanek. Bob Ahrendsen isn’t far behind holding the third spot.

In Budweiser Modifieds, Ryan Luedtke and Brian Gibson are co-leaders with 100 points each. Craig Bender is having a strong early season just four points back of the leaders.

Finally, in Performance Concepts Late Models, Joey Gase has the early division lead, holding a five point edge over Brad Osborn.

The Front Gate opens at 6pm with Hot Laps slated for 6:35 pm. Pre-Race Ceremonies will begin at 7:15pm with the first race at 7:30pm.

Adult admission is STILL  just $10, Senior Citizens (62+) are $7, Students over 12 are just $5, College Students are just $5 with a valid ID and Children 12 and Under are absolutely FREE!
