Zemo Steals the Show at Quad City Speedway

EAST MOLINE, IL – August 25, 2013 – It was Season Championship night at the Quad City Speedway on Sunday and no other race was more anticipated then the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Model 25 lap feature. Todd Malmstrom held a slim four point lead over Nate Beuseling going into the last night of points racing. All features Sunday night were lined-up by point standings going into Sunday night’s event.

So the stage was set for Malmstrom and Beuseling after both drivers won the respective heat races. For Beuseling to win the track championship he had to finish five spots ahead of Malmstrom in the feature. With those two drivers starting on the front row, nearly everybody thought Malmstrom and Beuseling would run side by side the entire 25 laps. Davenport’s, Mike Zemo Jr., had a different idea. At the drop of green Zemo got a great run on the inside of Malmstrom and never looked back. Zemo would go on to take the checkered flag. Malmstrom and Beuseling would battle for majority of the race before Malmstrom would take control of the second position. Beuseling would finish third followed by Rob Toland and Cory Goldbeck. Todd Malmstrom is the 2013 Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Model Track Champion.

Chris Lawrence, in the Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, ran a flawless 15 lap feature. Rob Nylin took second followed by Steven Jackson, Perry Gellerstedt, and Andrew Burk. Heat winners were Nylin and Chad Coyne. In capturing his feature win Sunday Lawrence also wrapped up the 2013 Weber Auto Street Stock Track Championship.

In the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modified 20 lap feature Greg Durbin held off an early challenge from Doug Crampton to win his sixth feature in 2013 at QCS. Brian Bushong came across second followed by Terry Rentfro, B.J. Jackson (who started 14^th), and Kevin Goben (who started 12^th). For the second year in a row Durbin is the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modified Track Champion.

Shon Sanders continued his unprecedented streak in the McDonald’s Mod Lites Sunday night. Sanders lead every lap even with Rock Island’s Bryan Brinker coming all the way from the ninth starting spot to challenge for the lead late in the race. Brinker would take second followed by Brad Lucy, Dan Guss, and Anthony Guss. Sanders also made it back to back Track Championships in the McDonald’s Mod Lites.

The Toppert Services UMP Modifieds went flag to flag in their 20 lap feature Sunday night. Brock Bauman gave Milo Veloz Jr. everything he could handle until Bauman broke something in the right front of the car with ten laps to go. Bauman held onto second followed by Brandon Durbin, R.J. Gonzales, and Shaune Lewis. Veloz not only won the feature but also the 2013 Toppert Services UMP Modified Track Championship.

Aaron Hitt parked his #48 machine in the winner’s circle once again in the 4-Cylinders Sunday. In the caution free feature Hitt battled side by side early on with Zach Dahl before pulling away from the field. Dahl would second followed by Mike Wisdom, Jon Scott, and John Scott III (who started 12^th). Hitt also secured the 2013 4-Cylinder Track Championship.

Next Sunday, September 1^st, will be the Inaugural Ron Marks Memorial featuring the Weber Auto Group Street Stocks in a 30 lap main event. The winner will take home at least $1,701.01. The feature pays $135.01 just to start. Also racing will be the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds, McDonald’s Mod Lites, 4-Cylinders, and IMRA Midget Lites. Standard ticket prices apply.
