Lakeside Speedway Set to Wrap Up Season

| September 18, 2013

Wheatland, MO (September 17th, 2013) – Race fans from all across the Midwest have begun to think about the NASCAR weekend in Kansas City, October 4-5. This year’s weekend will feature the same exhilarating action at Lakeside Speedway everyone has come to expect, but with a twist. For the first time the stars of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) will join the Lucas Oil MLRA creating a one of a kind experience.

The championship weekend for the series will begin on Friday evening with a $3,000 to win feature and Saturday, the main event will pay $5,000 to the winner. Tony Jackson Jr. has sat atop the standings for the second half of the season, and if he holds serve during the two races, will be crowned the 2013 Lucas Oil MLRA Champion. However, the ink is hardly dry on the check, as Will Vaught is just fifty-five markers back in second.  Terry Phillips, who has debuted a new Rocket Chassis, is third, just 30 points back of Vaught, and 85 markers back overall. The positions are still very much in flux through the top ten.

Vaught won the final night of this race one year ago. Jackson sat on the pole for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race held there earlier this year. Terry Phillips is the most recent USMTS winner at Lakeside Speedway. All three are extremely tough at the Johnson & Marrs owned oval, and the big cast of competitors expected will not make it easy as they race it out.

The Sunoco Rookie of the Year chase is also close and has been throughout the season. Travis Dickes is clinging to a 38 point lead over Chase Junghans. The two young drivers also sit seventh and eighth in the standings.

Advanced tickets for the weekend are on sale now.
