AAA Transmission and CARB Night at the Races I-35 Speedway

WISTON, MO (August 9, 2014) – Setting the standard for a great night of racing action the Show-Me Vintage Racers would raise the bar to a high level as they were the first to take to the track.  Side by side racing would see Brian Strong #7 lead early only to be overtaken by #22 of heat race winner John Steenstry who would find victory lane.  Strong would slide back through the pack only to work his way back toward the front to place second.  A very fast Jim Clevenger #66 would lead at one point only to fade late and place third.  Jim Snedeger #711 would outduel Dave Baldwin #4 to the checkers to finish fourth holding Baldwin fifth.

Growing in numbers and quality each week the E-Mod feature would see a photo finish with point leader Kit Bailey #77 edge John Brown #36j at the line. Both drivers would swap the lead three times in the last two laps to make it an exciting dash to the checkered flag, with Bailey using a slide job off turn four to emerge victorious leaving Brown in second place.  Second generation driver Chris Dishong #41 would impress all battling for the front spot early and placing a solid third.  Kyle Henning #1 would battle the entire race to finish fourth, as the young up and comer Nicholas Carpenter would have another top-five finish by placing fifth.  Heat race winners were John Brown #36j and Jason Teel #63.

USRA Hobby Stock would see the familiar face of 2013 track champion Mich Ross #34 race his way to McCarthy Auto Group Winners Circle.  Heat race winner Ross would lead every lap but not without a challenge as Josh Adkins #15, in his first appearance at I-35 Speedway this 2014 racing season, would motor his way to second.  Randy Smith Sr #7k would place third with Greg Gilbert #23g fourth and Bruce Lewis Jr #77L rounding out the top five.

Grand National’s would witness Don Marrs #9 lead early only to find the turn two wall causing heavy damage and eventual mechanical problems.  Donnie Brown #26 would capitalize on Marrs’ misfortune, taking the lead, never looking back for his second win of the season this season at I-35 Speedway.  Heat race winner Houston Johnson #97 would charge his way through the pack and challenge for the lead late only to settle for second.  Buz Kaster #54 and Austin Johnson #98 would race side by side for third until Johnson would develop mechanical issues.  Kaster would finish third with Johnson fourth.  One time leader Don Marrs would bring home a damaged race car in fifth.

USRA B-Mods would again see USRA National Point Leader Chad Clancy #21c claim overall feature win number twenty in the 2014 racing season.  Clancy seemed unstoppable taking the early lead and leading every lap but was challeneged consistently by second place finisher Doug Keller #77.  Big mover of the feature would go to #17a driven by P.J. Conger coming from fifth row inside starting spot to claim third place. Gregg Truelove back aboard the familiar blue #44 would also work his way through traffic holding off the hard charge of Randy Ainsworth #57, to place fourth leaving Ainsworth in fifth.  Heat race winners included Web Bestgen #15b and Doug Keller #77.

USRA Stock Cars were again in fine form as Dean Wray #77 would tighten the ever changing point battle by picking up the feature win.  Wray was challeneged every step of the way by second place finisher Thomas Roberts #65x in a barrowed race car.  Other top contender of the night Jeff Dixon #88 would use the high line to challenge both Wray and Roberts, slipping late t place third.  Jake Cameron #86c would race his way to a solid fourth place finish, with Phil Snodgrass recovering from an early race mishap to finish fifth.  Heat race winners were Dean Wray and Jeff Dixon.

USRA Modifieds would see the reigning track champion Steven Glenn #26s pilot his way to victory lane for the first time in the 2014 racing season at I-35 Speedway.  Glenn would use the low line to perfection as Bud Wilson #75 would challenge often only to be forced into a second place finish.  Point leader Zach Sanders #69 would recover from a mid-race spin charging through the pack to finish third.  Jim Hopkins #71 would battle for the lead early only to slide late to place fourth.  Richard Layne #0 would pilot his racecar to a solid fifth place showing.  Heat race winners were Bud Wilson and Zach Sanders.

On CARB Night at I-35 Speedway Kaster Celebration Awards were presented to one driver from each class.  Winners of these prestigious awards were Dave Baldwin #4 (Vintage), Austin Bouzek #75 (E-Mod), Greg Gilbert #23g (USRA Hobby Stock), Marty Powell #9p (Grand National), Ronnie Miller #76 (USRA B-Mod), Richard Moulton #18 (USRA Stock Car), and Anthony Logston #38 (USRA Modified).  Congratulations to all these drivers on this amazing award.  We would like to thank CARB and the Kaster Family for their continued support of dirt track racing.
