AAA Transmission, Kids Night at the Races, and Poster Night at I-35 Speedway
WINSTON, MO (August 4, 2013) – Back with us this week and first to tackle the 3/8 mile of dirt were the Show-Me Vintage Racers. Picking up right where he left off a week ago, Darren Shore #2 would come from a shotgun starting spot to claim the feature victory as well as the heat race. “Big” Mike McDowell #24 held off the always fast Bobby Fleethart prepared #7 driven by Shane “Biscuit” Wilson to finish second with Wilson third. Dave Baldwin #4 would battle Brian “Bump” Strong #711 to finish fourth and Strong would bring it home fifth.
Grand Nationals would witness a first time winner as young fourteen year old Houston Johnson #97 claimed the night’s top spot. The “Moose” was truly loose on this night as young Houston would hold off all challengers on his way to victory as Don Marrs #9 would place second. First to victory lane to congratulate Houston was older brother and point leader Austin Johnson #98 who would finish third. Suffering mechanical problems early on in the feature witnessed Travis Walker #71 settle for fourth and Bud Wilson #75, also with mechanical issues, would finish fifth. Heat race winner was Travis Walker.
The IMCA Stock Cars again proved just how competitive and exciting of a class they continue to be week after week. Point leader and heat race winner Dean Wray #77 would power his way from a fourth row inside starting position to claim the feature win. Wray would use the high line to pass early race leader and heat race winner Gene Stigall #20, as Stigall would finish second. Brad Whitney #x9 challenged both Wray and Stigall almost the entire race only to have to settle for third, as Jake Cameron #86c would come home fourth. Greg Keuhn #6x would round out the nights top five.
IMCA Sport Mods would also witness a first time winner, with Tony Manley #3x closing the deal while edging out the always fast Nick “The Kid” Roberts #23jr. After winning his heat race Manley would lead every lap in the feature on his way to victory as he would beat Roberts to the checkers by a mere half a car length. Roberts would end the night in second as point leader Randy Ainsworth #57 would finish third. Back with a vengeance “Wild Child” Nic Hanes #9h would charge from the rear of the field to finish fourth, with David Pierce #16 fifth. Other heat race winners were Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p and Josh Barnes #52j.
IMCA Hobby Stocks took to the track next with point leader and National Rookie of the Year Contender Kenny Champ #3 back in victory lane. Champ would battle back from an early race mishap to pass heat race winner Mich Ross #34, who would place second. The crafty veteran David Truskett #83 would not allow the young drivers to have all the fun as he would finish third. Cody Doolittle #5 would hold off fellow rookie driver Bryce Whitney #x9 to finish fourth holding Whitney to fifth.
IMCA Modifieds would see the familiar #69n of Cory Wray power his way through the pack multiple times after early race mishaps for the feature win. Heat race winner John Hanson #2h would lead early and end the night with an impressive second place finish. Point leader Steven Glenn #26s would battle late with Johnny McGinnis #10 to finish third, moving McGinnis to fourth. Paul Lanfermann II #10L, improving each week, would start on the pole only to slide back to the fifth finishing spot. The other heat race winner was Jim Cameron #96c.
I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our great sponsors for making “Kids Night at the Races” a special event. All school age kids received an abundance of supplies for the upcoming school year. Poster Night revealed a lot of artistic talent amongst fans, as all were deemed the winners. We would also like to thank everyone who participated in the front stretch “Stinky” foot race, as all runners would receive a trophy and more school supplies. I-35 Speedway invites everyone Thursday night as the USMTS invade the 3/8 mile. Saturday night Intermission entertainment will feature drivers participating in a three legged race and signing autographs afterwards. We look forward to seeing all of our loyal fans Thursday night for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
